Melissa McCarthy is launching a clothing line
“I’m doing all sizes. It’s a strange thing to stop at a certain size. Women don’t, so why should clothes?”
One of our fave comedians, Melissa McCarthy, has announced that she will be launching a clothing line next year.
Don’t worry guys, it’s not just another actress-turned-designer blah collection. We’re getting a bit sick of celebrities using fashion as a tool for building bizarre brand empires. Melissa actually studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, before her friend and footwear designer, Brian Atwood, convinced her to do stand-up.
The collection will launch with casual sportswear for fall 2015 in US, UK, and Canada specialty and department stores. It will also be available online, however retailers haven’t been confirmed.
In a move to make fashion more accessible, Melissa has said that her designs are a “more modern” offering to what’s already out there for larger women.
“I’m doing all sizes,” she said. “It’s a strange thing to stop at a certain size. Women don’t, so why should clothes?”
Teaming up with Sunrise for the line, the clothes will sell at moderate price points. Tops are from $39 to $79, jumpers are $79 to $99, and bottoms are $59 to $118. Melissa will release another collection in 2016, but this one will be a more contemporary and premium offering. It will also include an accessories range and beauty products.
No name for the label yet, but it will include her name is some way. We are beyond excited.
