Miley Cyrus wears VMAs outfit that rips off DI$COUNT UNIVER$E

Such a shame.

The VMAs was a bit of a mess and what could have actually been a really cool closing performance (Miley Cyrus on stage with drag queens from Rupaul’s Drag Race) turned out to be a huge bummer for Australian label, DI$COUNT UNIVER$E.

Miley and her drag queen #squad + Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips ended the night performing ‘Dooo It!’, a track from Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz—a surprise new album that you can now stream for free.

The outfits drew particular likeness to DI$COUNT UNIVER$E. Glitter, sequins, graphic eyes, bright colours, big lips and teeth. But it was actually the work of New York designer, BCalla (Brad Callahan) and put together by Miley’s stylist, Simone Harouche.

The designers from DI$COUNT UNIVER$E, Cami James and Nadia Napreychikov, released a statement on their Insta. Dismay all around.

“To our dearest DU Family, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for all the LOVE and support. We are obviously distraught, and this couldn’t have come at a worse time as we are on our official last day of making the new collection, so we are trying out best to rise above and stay focused. We’ve kept our mouths closed about a lot of things in the past, but the one thing you can’t TAKE and get away with is someone’s IDENTITY. We know it might be risky for us career-wise to comment on this, but if we didn’t, it would mean that we stand for NOTHING. We will be discussion this soon. Lots of love, Nadia and Cami xoxo.”

Miley has worn DI$COUNT UNIVER$E’s stuff before so it’s not like she’s never heard of the brand. Poor move.

The real hero from the night is Baddie Winkle though, who arrived decked out in DI$COUNT UNIVER$E. What a babe.
