Whether you like it or not, TikTok has changed the way the world writes about and analyses fashion. Nuanced commentary can now be broken down into accessible, bite-sized chunks, and revered fashion analysts now exist as much on social media as they do in the top spots of legacy media publications.

Fashion TikTok is ever-moving, opinionated and brimming with emerging talent – which makes it the perfect platform for me, as the Assistant Editor here at FJ. Scroll on for seven of my favourite fashion TikTok accounts.
Michelle Bañares
@michellebanaresHiiiiiiii♬ original sound – Tyla
A self-professed ‘ex Tumblr girlie’, producer and content creator Michelle Bañares always nails the concept of ‘high-low dressing’ – think Chanel ballet flats with suit pants from Uniqlo. She often champions Australian designers in her looks, and serves as a great source of inspiration for transseasonal dressing – she is a Melbourne local, after all.
Rian Phin
@thatadultzaya wade you will always be miu miu! dweeby fashion and subverting patriarchal expectations and women as complex intellectual designers♬ original sound – rian
Rian is a New York-based content creator who speaks on art, design, archival and contemporary fashion. Her videos range from ‘Weird fashion that’s catching my eye’ to ‘A deep dive on trend alienation in era-based trends’, making it prime viewing for both my intellectual and pea-brained moods. Rian’s outfits are also great (naturally); a sleek mix of thrifted and high-end pieces.
Imani Rudolph
@champagn3maniperfect lil 40 degree outfit if you ask me (obvi took my jacket off for the vid)♬ Sadeness – Enigma
Honestly, I just wish I had Imani Rudolph’s wardrobe. The New York-based model and content creator is one of those people who has such a firm grasp on their own personal style, and she really understands how to dress for her body. Imani’s vintage hauls make me envious, and I love her ability to style monochromatic looks in an interesting way.
Rowi Singh
@rowisingh I walked my first runway! #ausfashionweek ♬ original sound – Rowi
Australian creator Rowi is known primarily for her ultra-vibrant makeup looks, but I love her fashion videos too. Her styling abilities have some serious range, and she’s a great source of inspiration for those looking to try out editorial hair and makeup, but have no idea where to start. Most importantly, she makes me want to wear more colour, which is not something I say often as a serial monochromatic dresser.
Kristina Avakyan

Ah, the infamous subway girl. Love or hate her, Kristina Avakyan’s style is divisive, provocative and kind of unhinged, which makes for excellent viewing. With the lore that surrounds insanity on New York subway stations, why does everyone care so much about Kristina’s blanket halterneck and general pantlessness? I’m not sure, but I’m watching.
Agus Panzoni
@thealgorythm Kim Kardashian’s prairie shoot and the big red boots have a lot in common 🔍 “If you kick someone with these, they go BOING”. Diving deep into the intersection between fashion and the AI revolution to find the real reason behind these boot’s virality (besides the influencer campaign ofc). ☕️ Here’s my cloudwear video in response to Prada’s puffification @thealgorythm ♬ original sound – The algorythm
As someone who writes about fashion, I don’t just use TikTok to smooth out my silly little mind after a long day – it’s also an important source of inspiration. It’s an app I use to engage in interesting discussions about consumption, trends and the future of fashion. Argentinian fashion figure and trend forecaster Agus Panzoni was the first user to really introduce me to this corner of TikTok. She officially coined the term ‘subversive basics’ and predicted the rise of indie sleaze, unbounded maximalism and regencycore.
Alexandra Hildreth
@guyfieri.superfan Everything thats opulent has a little mystery to it #opulenttips #gatekeeping #fashiontiktok #personalstyle #sustainablestyle #wardrobestaples #chic #fypシ ♬ original sound – Alexandra Hildreth
Another New York-based creator (I’m sensing a theme here), freelance fashion writer and producer Alexandra Hildreth speaks about contemporary fashion in an intelligent yet accessible way. Her commentary is honest and refreshingly off the cuff, and her videos span everything from ‘the true meaning of personal style’ to ‘what democratising fashion really looks like’. Her content feels informative but never boring.
Mandy Lee
@oldloserinbrooklyn It shoe time machine part 2: early 2010s! I still love so many of these, would you wear any? #designershoes #nostalgia #fashiontrends #alexandermcqueen #viviennewestwood #miumiu #fashion ♬ original sound – Mandy Lee
I never miss a video from analyst and fashion writer Mandy Lee. She’s another creator who talks about fashion in a way that doesn’t feel regurgitated, and her drunk Met Gala commentary was truly second to none (even if you’ve seen all the looks, I recommend scrolling back to watch). She’s also a circular fashion girlie who is often picking up archival Margiela, Prada, Miu Miu and Simone Rocha from sites like The RealReal and Vestiare Collective.
