A week in work outfits with Goodbyes’ Head of People and Culture, Kara Moss

WORDS BY YASMIN GOWER

“I get dressed every day just depending on what I’m feeling, that could mean casual and chill one day or a little bit snazzy another.”

Working in a creative role, it can be difficult to know how to dress for the day. Instead of having a set uniform of crisp white shirts and tailored black pants (as much as I love both), an ever-changing schedule means every morning requires a set of questions. Am I running around, or just sitting at my desk? Do I need to dress specifically for a project? And most importantly, will I be in the background of someone’s TikTok?

This week, Kara Moss, Goodbyes’ Head of People and Culture, takes us through her week in work outfits. Responsible for managing talent acquisition and ensuring a positive culture at Goodbyes, she prioritises thrifted gems, thoughtfully chosen designer pieces (a perk of working for a chain of consignment stores!) and versatile accessories. Read on to see what garments she’s gravitated to.

Monday

Happy Monday! The weather has finally started getting warm in Melbourne and I’ve been looking forward to having fun with the summer ’fits this week. I get dressed every day just depending on what I’m feeling, that could mean casual and chill one day or a little bit snazzy another.

Most of my day today involves typing away at the computer so I’m really just getting dressed up for me, but that’s what fashion is all about. I’m wearing a Proenza Schouler T-shirt from the Prahran Goodbyes, a Levi’s denim mini skirt I bought from a vintage store in Seoul and Tony Bianco boots.

Tuesday

Today is a payroll day which entails lots of talking to myself and lots of numbers. The overalls are Carhartt and they’re my go-to if I’m ever stuck on what to wear. I’ve paired them with just a white T-shirt from Uniqlo and my Asics runners.

My sunglasses are Anine Bing, I like to keep my accessories simple and with little variation so you’ll see me with the same sunnies, same bag and same jewellery across all of my ’fits.

Wednesday

I’m visiting the Collingwood store today. I’ve been organising first aid training for all of our managers this month and I wanted to pop into the Collingwood store and check out one of the new first aid kits we installed across the Naarm stores. Store visits are also a great chance to visit the team, catch up with everyone and help out on the floor.

Today I’m wearing a full Goodbyes ’fit – the shirt is Guess and the cargos are vintage workwear Levi’s, both bought for under $50 and my boots are by the brand Bronx. Store visits usually mean doing a bit of shopping which can be very dangerous. It’s probably for the best that I don’t work in the stores full-time.

Thursday

Our Carlton North office is a pretty relaxed neighbourhood to work from, comfortable and casual will always be appropriate. Our local cafe Sleepy’s has such a lovely community vibe and the team there is always down for a chat when we take our coffee breaks.

This rugby jumper is from the Adelaide Goodbyes. The price had ticked over to 50 per cent off so I paid $15 for it! I’ve paired it with some Levi’s I’ve had for years that I cut into shorts and the boots are Tony Bianco. My bag is my all-time favourite Maison Margiela I bought when I was in Japan.

Friday

Today I’m wearing a dress from Chopova Lowena that I bought for an amazing deal on Depop. It’s such a great day-to-night piece because it’s a soft jersey material so I can throw it on in the morning, be comfortable working and then be ready to head out for Friday drinks this evening.

My boots are again my Tony Bianco boots, I wear them three to four times a week even in the summer. I’ve always been drawn to boots; I love wearing dresses and skirts and then edging the look up with boots. I’ve stomped all around Melbourne in these, they just get me.
