5 things to do during Melbourne Fashion Week’s Opening Weekend

With Melbourne Fashion Week fast approaching, it’s time to start adding some events to your diary.

Kicking off proceedings is Melbourne Fashion Week’s Opening Weekend, with plenty to see and do all over the city.

To help you make your way around and take it all in, we’ve compiled five Opening Weekend events that are absolute musts.

Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out

Get involved in some serious spending from your favourite brands with this annual shopping event. Launching Friday at 10am and running through until Saturday, well-known labels will be offering exclusive discounts and entertainment across two full days. Expect music, drinks, runways and exclusive offers from brands like Calvin Klein, David Jones, Mecca and more.

AFC Curated Store

To help support your local, AFC is bringing together a collection of independent Australian brands in one curated store. Taking place in the Town Hall, you can shop brands like A.BCH, IVY NIU, Oneiric, Autark and more. The store will be open throughout the week.

Victoria’s Fashion Encapsulated

Take a walking tour of the city to check out MFW Fashion Capsules. Fashion designers, digital and video artists, jewellers and film-makers will all display their works in different parts of the city. Locations include Bourke Street Mall, Arts Centre, 101 Collins Street, Collins Square, Campbell Arcade and Emporium Melbourne. Meet a dedicated city guide who will talk you through each exhibit on this exclusive tour.

Street Runway One

Head to Union Lane for the first of three Street Runways held during MFW. This free runway will give you a look at the latest collections from some of Melbourne’s most popular and recognised retailers, including Cue, Elk and Obus. The runways will take place on Friday with shows at 1pm and 4pm.

Emporium Melbourne Fashion Botanica

On Friday, Emporium Melbourne will transform into a blooming wonderland of greenery. The shopping centre will offer luxury gifts from its mirrored Green House to anyone who spends over $100 during the night of Friday August 31. You can also get a complimentary bespoke cocktail from Bar Botanica to officially ring in Fashion Week.  While you’re there, check out Fashion Capsule Six, an art installation that’s taking place in the centre.
