8 staff from Goodbyes show us their favourite outfit for the colder months
WORDS BY IZZY WIGHT
“I get dressed like I’m customising my character in a game – randomised.”
Working at Fashion Journal, Goodbyes is often on the mind. The Brunswick store is conveniently located near our office, and we’ll often punctuate a lunch break (or a coffee run) with a quick trip across the road to browse the racks of secondhand designer. For the unacquainted, Goodbyes is a chain of contemporary consignment stores located across Australia, stocking a curated selection of pre-loved pieces.
For more style suggestions, head to our Fashion vertical.
With access to a constant stream of secondhand gems, it only makes sense that Goodbyes staff are impeccably dressed. Here, we asked eight Goodbyes staff members to show us the winter outfit that’s currently on high rotation. Read on to see how these workers style Cavalli, Oats the Label, Lova Mohan, Balenciaga and more.

“Step into the world where style meets the silver screen, where every stitch tells a story and every outfit is a statement.” IYKYK. It’s definitely been my mantra lately. In this picture, I’m wearing a Vivienne Westwood choker, the iconic Balenciaga City Bag and a gorgeous top from the Australian designer Romance was Born. It’s basically my go-to comfort fit. I’m rocking all this art from the comfort of my room because who says you should only wear PJs at home (wink)?

Winter is my season (duh), so when it’s cold enough, you will be seeing me in my latest fur. This is a vintage Stephen Dattner Tibetan lamb fur that is my statement piece. It’s extra, it’s warm, it’s giving old Hollywood glam and it’s undoubtedly me. I’ve paired it with my all-time favourite Goodbyes find: an Australian vintage black silk skirt.
It’s my go-to reach when the outfit needs to be correct. I’m warm and covered up modestly, but I can interchange any top for a blazer, a shirt or a coat – she’s so versatile and I love it. I’m wearing a dragon mesh bodysuit that I got from the thrift. As for accessories – well what’s more winter-coded than a black leather glove (thrifted from Goodbyes of course)?
I’m also wearing a Kangol beret to bring it all together and to keep my wig warm. I finished it all off with my gold Balenciaga belt, black velvet TNs (I’m from Adelaide, are you surprised?) and my Bvlgari sunglasses.
I would have my green crocodile Balenciaga Neo Classic, but she didn’t make the pic. I wouldn’t leave the house without my glasses and bag. It’s all about the mystery in winter – what’s in my bag? What secrets do I hide beneath my shades? That’s all.

The go-to is always cheap and chic. I get dressed like I’m customising my character in a game – randomised. I love sexy clothes. I never plan. Music inspired me today. Also, a floor-length trench makes it easy as you can wear almost anything you like beneath it all. I’m wearing some skinnies and a Cavalli top. The trench [is from] where else but Goodbyes?
Jemima Mikulic, Goodbyes Prahran Resale Assistant
The jacket is my brand Lova Mohan, it’s been keeping me so warm and I love the silhouette of it. I thought it would be fun to pair it with mini shorts to exaggerate the oversized jacket/scarf combo, I also love these Prada knee-high socks I got from Goodbyes (naturally).
During winter I have to make a conscious effort to incorporate colour, as I’m so prone to an all-black outfit. But the sun was out today, so the pop of the green jacket felt right!

This is my current go-to fit! Layering has become an essential part of my routine when I’m styling an outfit. I love that it gives new purposes to pieces in my wardrobe and makes creating a look all the more fun. My jumper, bag and shoes are pieces that I’ve picked up at (of course) Goodbyes.
I love that you can always find something unique and exciting when shopping secondhand and [you can] give a new life to something old. I’ve layered it with my favourite dress from independent Naarm brand Oats the Label and – paying homage to the 1990s Gopnik style – paired it back with some Adidas Original track pants.
Manny Singh, Goodbyes Braddon Assistant Store Manager
I like incorporating a bit of colour as sunlight becomes more scarce in winter. Here I am wearing my black Marni loafers (from Goodbyes Braddon) so I safely step through all the Canberra puddles! I styled them with the classic Levi’s 501s, a plain white shirt and a vintage brown blazer. For a pop of colour, I’m wearing a Wales Bonner sweater vest and my tangerine turban. Oh! and a black Ted Baker tote so I can throw my lunch, keys and whatever else the day requires in there.
Jojo Shierlaw, Goodbyes Prahran Store Manager
Embracing winter with a pop of colour, I’m wearing my absolute favourite Goodbyes find – this bold, 80s-inspired blue genuine leather jacket. It effortlessly enhances any outfit. I paired it with a versatile plaid skirt-turned-dress that I made and topped off with a mesh underlay for added flair.
I love experimenting with volume, length, layers and accessories in my looks. Completing the ensemble are my go-to Camper loafers and a chic white Cellini handbag, both from Goodbyes, of course! It feels amazing to shop secondhand and I’m excited to showcase more fun and sustainable looks this winter.

Anyone who knows me will recognise many pieces from this outfit as core staples in my wardrobe. I wear them year-round, but here I’ve styled them in a seasonally appropriate way to stay warm. I love this outfit because it perfectly captures my personal style.
I’m wearing silver basketball shorts by local Melbourne designer Chantelle Lucyl, because I always prioritise comfort – especially in winter – [and] paired it with black leather Camper boots I bought from Goodbyes. To add dimension, I’ve layered a textured asymmetrical top, a bolero and a cropped jacket with a fur hood (one of my favourite thrift finds). For accessories, I’ve chosen some current favourites: Oakley sunglasses, a chunky silver necklace, and a 000033lab bag.
