We know personal style is a journey (I’m looking at you, Tumblr years), so we’ve introduced a new series Hey, I Like Your Style!, diving into the fashion psyche of our favourite creatives. We’re talking the good, the bad and the 2007.
While the internet has made our fashion icons feel closer than ever before, even the most effortless of outfits came from a closet with some (well-dressed) skeletons. Clickable product tags, photo archives and lives chronicled in 30-second clips just don’t tell the full story.

This week, we’re taking a step inside the wardrobe of Sydney-based model and content creator, Grace Holland. Growing up, Grace felt those familiar adolescent pressures to conform, wanting “to fit in and be accepted and liked by others”. But after high school, her confidence (and wardrobe) flourished. Now, Grace wears an eclectic mix of hyper-feminine dresses and androgynous basics, always returning to her well-worn Dickies and a pair of vintage leather boots. Read on for her style journey.

I’m Grace Holland, a psychology student, model and content creator. I like to wear androgynous ’70s and ’90s-inspired outfits that make me feel confident and unstoppable.
What has your style evolution looked like? Do you feel like you’ve gained confidence in the way you dress?

I definitely used to just dress like everyone else so I could fit in… I was very insecure when I was younger. However, now I’ve gained so much confidence and individuality, I couldn’t care less what’s trending. I’d much rather stay true to myself and rock what I wanna rock – whether that be a matching pants and vest set or a cute slip dress with big chunky boots.
Personal style is a journey. Have you ever felt like you needed to fit into a particular fashion box?

Oh definitely. Up until I was about 17 or 18, I felt trapped in a box, [wanting] to fit in and be accepted and liked by others. After high school, it became easier to not give a shit what people think.

Definitely those galaxy leggings and Tumblr-esque crop tops with cringe sayings on them.
What are the most expensive and least expensive items in your wardrobe?

The most expensive item in my wardrobe would definitely be my vintage Sonax brown leather boots. I actually copped them recently from the US and I spent about $850 on them! The least expensive would be anything I’ve thrifted, so either some loafers or a jumper.
What is the most meaningful fashion piece you own?

My most meaningful fashion piece is probably the vintage leather boots I previously mentioned or my mum’s old lace cream jumpsuit that gives off very hippie ’70s vibes.
What’s in your cart at the moment?
In my cart at the moment are cream-coloured coveralls and a boiler suit. I’m currently saving up for them!
What are the wardrobe items you wear on repeat?

My khaki green cargo Dickies, a classic brown or cream-coloured hoodie, a black maxi skirt, a white button-up top and a long maxi dress with some loafers.
What’s the outfit that makes you feel most confident?

An outfit that makes me feel confident is definitely a more masculine-styled look. Perhaps trousers with a button-up shirt and vest and some loafers or sneakers. Always make me feel very stylish and badass. Feels very me.
