Hilary Duff’s most iconic looks, from Lizzie McGuire to Raise Your Voice.
The news of Hilary’s Duff return to music has inspired several trips down memory lane here in the FJ office. It’s hard to believe it’s been 22 years since the singer’s iconic album, Metamorphosis, was released (our intern Chloe wasn’t even born yet). And we’re not the only the only ones who’ve been feeling nostalgic for the early aughts.
“Clearly I had to go digging around the internet for pictures from this time as I’m not sure camera phones even existed,” Hilary wrote in a recent Instagram post. “Sadly all my hairstyles ARE very documented.”

As more and more looks from the singer’s archives popped up on our social feeds, we realised Hilary might just be the most enduring Y2K style icon there is. Her teenage wardrobe is still what dreams are made of.
Taking any excuse to rewatch Lizzie McGuire, we spent the afternoon revisiting and ranking the most iconic fashion in Hilary Duff films. Behold, the outfits that made a lasting impression on us.
Stripes on stripes in Rome
“I recently did a Lizzie McGuire Movie rewatch and couldn’t get past her outfits. The stripe on stripe? Perfect. I wish I were wearing this while traipsing around Rome on a popstar named Paolo’s Vespa.” – Daisy Henry, Fashion Journal‘s Assistant Editor
Vintage Vivienne Westwood

“Lizzie walked (or rather danced and fell into a bath tub) in vintage Vivienne Westwood before you Depop girlies could run. The pink-and-black argyle top with matching knee-high socks and platform sandals outfit has been reshared a lot lately, for good reason.” – Lara Daly, Fashion Journal‘s Features Editor
The igloo dress

“It’s high fashion, it’s camp, it’s inflatable and yes, I’d like to find a way to wear it on a ski trip. That’s what my dreams are made of.” – Holly Villagra, Fashion Journal‘s Branded Content and Production Coordinator
Cadet in pink camo
“The pink camouflage monochrome look from Cadet Kelly kickstarted a very bratty stage of my life in which I added embellishments to my public school uniform such as bejewelled headbands, sequin skinny scarves and large statement necklaces.” – Molly Griffin, Fashion Journal‘s Advertising and Partnerships Manager
I’ll raise you a chunky belt
“I cannot believe Raise Your Voice came out over 20 years ago. It’s the perfect movie – it’s got that iconic vocal run from Hilary Duff that’s been meme’d to death, Aiden (of SATC) plays a music teacher (random) and of course, the outfits. Though simple, this particular look feels just as fitting today as it did in 2004. And now I have a chunky black belt on my wishlist.” – Daisy
Pink sneaker princess
“The way pink Chuck Taylors swept across my intermediate school after A Cinderella Story came out… This (and later, Lily Allen) inspired many a sneakers-and-prom-dress combos in 2004. But for me, I left the film determined to find a pink pair of Nike Cortez like the ones in this iconic scene with Chad Michael Murray. Swoon.” – Lara
