WORDS BY IZZY WIGHT
Made with love.
When it comes to purchasing jewellery, having a connection with the designer can make the experience that much more special. But with the influx of jewellery labels popping up, it’s easy to feel a little overwhelmed by choice. At Fashion Journal, we’re all about supporting Australian-grown talent – and narrowing down the location might make your decision a little easier.

Below, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite independent Melbourne jewellery designers, as curated by the FJ team. Scroll on for all kinds of pieces, from crazy-colourful to refined and elegant.
Cleopatra’s Bling

Inspired by art, travel and historical jewellery-making techniques, Cleopatra’s Bling creates intricate pieces from hammered metal and wax moulds. Olivia Cummings, the founder, dreamt up her idea for the brand while in Paris, before moving to Turkey to learn “the art of adornment”. You can shop directly at the Cleopatra’s Bling flagship store in Collingwood.

For something on the more refined side, Seb Brown’s naïve-style pieces will pare back perfectly with your already-existing jewellery collection. Each piece is handcrafted to order in Seb’s CBD studio, made from recycled silver and gold and high-quality gemstones.

“Grotesquely romantic”, Sacreflux is a label centred around romance in all forms. Run by designer Georgia Sacre, the label twists sterling silver, nine-carat gold and lab-grown gemstones into all manner of bows, flowers, knots and butterflies. The label’s ‘Decay’ rings are a customer favourite, and you can choose from a variety of different glittery colour combinations.

Launched in 2014 by founder Alicia Millan, Aletheia & Phos is a jewellery label with a nostalgic, old-world feel. Inspired by Alicia’s heritage and the special moments throughout her life, Alethia & Phos pieces are distinct while still being everyday wearable. To browse IRL, you can stop by the brand’s new boutique in Fitzroy.

Ruby Kannava’s background in fine art informs her design process – her jewellery pieces are unique, sculptural and consciously made. Ruby’s passion lies in bespoke jewellery, as she rarely makes the same thing “over and over again”. Each piece is handmade in her Brunswick studio, using recycled materials and lab-cut gemstones.
Lott Studio

Lott Studio crafts timeless ‘forever pieces’ – think elegant rings, necklaces and earrings to stack on with the other pieces in your collection. Each piece is made-to-order to reduce wastage, so ensure you leave two to three weeks before shipping.
Mgn Jewellery

Made by Melbourne designer Megan, MGN Jewellery is ethereal, colourful and a little offbeat (in the best way). Megan transforms high-polish sterling silver, gold and lab-grown gemstones into kitschy shapes like hearts, stars, sunflowers and kittens. Another selling point? Mgn Jewellery counts Dua Lipa as a fan.
Bella Clark

Crafting out of her Fitzroy studio, Melbourne jeweller Bella Clark makes feminine, delicate pieces inspired by the powerful women in her life. Bella’s work is rooted in sustainability, as she makes each ‘heirloom-worthy’ piece to order. You can choose from her already-existing collection, or order a bespoke piece to mark a milestone.
