This past weekend saw Melbourne Fashion Week host its first ever Modest Fashion Runway event.

More than just a catwalk, the purpose behind MFR is to celebrate multiculturalism and support emerging talent in modest fashion. Alongside the runway, Saturday’s schedule was packed with events.

Workshops held by industry experts covered Kimono dressing to modest hairstyling, and award-winning makeup artist Maggie Tamarua gave a demonstration. Industry representatives presented panels on modesty’s place in fashion and how it can empower women.

As for the designs themselves, labels including Yasmin Jay, Illham .A. Ismail, and Sunna Style reflected the innovative and contemporary approaches changing up modest fashion right now.

Curating a range of both international and Australian designers, MFR also gave attendees the chance to shop the runway on site.
