End of an era.

When Monk House Design opened its doors in 2005, owner and manager Roula Tzidras aimed to provide a curated selection of unique pieces for the modern woman.

15 years on, Monk House has seen a change. A second store was opened in the CBD, it started an in-house label, launched online and grown its social media audience beyond expectations.

Now Tzidras is stepping away from the business for a nice long break. She made the announcement on Instagram last night where she said it was time  “to put down the steamer and have a change”. Despite being the soul of Monk House, Tzidras has built a legacy that will hold for years to come.

Monk House Design has solidified itself as a fixture in the Melbourne fashion world. By housing international brands alongside independent local designers, Roula’s nurturing of Australian talent oftentimes launched careers. Some brands such as Kuwaii have even stuck around since the beginning.

With designers such as Kloke and Kowtow stocked in stores, Monk House sells apparel, homeware, accessories and jewellery for women that is creative, carefully thought out and artfully produced.

The fate of the iconic Melbourne shop is not yet known, but Monk House told Fashion Journal:

“At this time we are accepting expressions of interest and we are confident we will continue the store with a new owner.”

We hope so too.
