WORDS BY CAITLIN CEFAI

β€œColour, comfort, cool and cute.”

We know personal style is a journey (I’m looking at you, Tumblr years), so we’ve introduced a new series Hey, I Like Your Style!, diving into the fashion psyche of our favourite creatives. We’re talking the good, the bad and the 2007.

While the internet has made our fashion icons feel closer than ever before, even the most effortless of outfits came from a closet with some (well-dressed) skeletons. Clickable product tags, photo archives and lives chronicled in 30-second clips just don’t tell the full story.

These are the stories behind the wardrobes, exploring how we develop our own personal style. There’s a brilliance behind the way we choose to express ourselves and at FJ, we know every outfit has a story.

This week, we’re exploring the style of Ladies of Leisure founder and Melbourne creative, Savannah Anand-Sobti. A fan of creature comforts like cozy knitwear, Savannah is all about dreamy, colourful pieces that are stylish while still being practical.

A special thanks toΒ Creative VictoriaΒ who made this iteration ofΒ Hey, I Like Your Style! possible. Read on for Savannah’s style journey.Β

Who are you and what do you like to wear?

I am a Desi-Kiwi woman living in Naarm. I recently worked with the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival curating a wide range of their program. I also founded a community project [called] Ladies of Leisure and have dabbled in various other pursuits.

Iβ€˜m a recent Tik Tok addict. They’re a few great content creators on there that have some great theories on developing your own personal style to help guide you into what things to buy and keep in your wardrobe. One tool they had was to break down your style into three words.

Mine would be colour, comfort, cool and cute. [It’s] four, but I couldn’t pick between cool and cute because I think I like the combo.

What has your style evolution looked like? Do you feel like you’ve gained confidence in the way you dress?Β

As I have aged, matured and studied, I’ve gained confidence in all areas of life. I studied textile design, which is where I gained an understanding of colour and colour combinations, which is something I’m really into.

Personal style is a journey. Have you ever felt like you needed to fit into a particular fashion box?

I would imagine everyone would subconsciously at some point feel the need to assimilate into society, and fashion is just one of those mediums. Yet, at the same time, it’s a great way to try and create some personal identity. I think I’m still influenced by who I’m around and what environment or mood I’m in.

What are the most expensive and least expensive items in your wardrobe?Β

My inherited gold jewellery and crop tops from high street shops.

What is the most meaningful fashion piece you own?

My gold jewellery from my Dadi and Booa.

What’s in your cart at the moment?

Birkenstock Bostons and a bunch of fun things I can’t afford.

What fashion piece are you saving for right now?

A Dior Saddle Bag.

What are the wardrobe items you wear on repeat?Β

High-waisted and wide-leg trousers, hoodies, chunky hand-knit sweaters and sneakers.

Who are your favourite local designers?

Suku Home, FME Apparel, Ka-He, Rittle King and Underground Sundae.

How important is conscious shopping/styling to you?

I dress very intuitively so in a way not that much… but I do value comfort a lot, so I consider that when shopping.

Any fashion regrets?

Nope!
