The long-awaited Converse and Hiroshi Fujiwara collab launches this September

Words by Georgie Kibel

Who knew Chuck Taylors could get even cooler?

Hiroshi Fujiwara, the founder of multidisciplinary imprint Fragment who has been dubbed the “godfather of streetwear”, has collaborated with Converse to give a fresh spin on the iconic Chuck 70. Having hinted at this shoe all the way back in February, lovers of Fujiwara and Converse will no doubt be relieved that the wait is over.

Available this September, the 7 Moncler Fragment + Converse Chuck 70 is the first footwear collaboration to come out of Fujiwara’s contribution to the Moncler Genius 2020 project.

The Moncler 2020 Genius Project is a collaboration between eight prominent designers and the luxury fashion brand. JW Anderson, 1952, Grenoble, Simone Rocha, Craig Green, 1017 Alyx 9sm, Richard Quinn and, of course, Hiroshi Fujiwara are revamping Moncler with fresh and experimental designs.

Fujiwara’s modern take on the Converse Chuck 70 is minimalist in design, epitomising the clean and sophisticated streetwear that has become a hallmark of his designs.

The 7 Moncler Fragment + Converse Chuck 70 is available in both black and white, with both designs sporting white midsoles and black piping.

The contrast stitching and sleek silhouette distinguish the new design from traditional Converse styles, whilst still retaining the best parts of everyone’s favourite shoe.

This newest release by Converse and Fujiwara means that Chucks are no longer merely your go-to casual shoe, but also your first option for a night out. The tuxedo-like design gives these Converse the formal edge the original Chuck Taylors were missing.

The 7 Moncler + Converse Chuck 70 is set to launch September 3.
