A week in work outfits with Who Boutique’s co-owner, Tali Zevi

WORDS BY CAIT EMMA BURKE

“I’m constantly mixing new and old and love my clothes to have a little story behind them.”

Working in a creative role, it can be difficult to know how to dress for the day. Instead of having a set uniform of crisp white shirts and tailored black pants (as much as I love both), an ever-changing schedule means every morning requires a set of questions. Am I running around, or just sitting at my desk? Do I need to dress specifically for a project? And most importantly, will I be in the background of someone’s TikTok?

This week, Tali Zevi, the co-owner of Melbourne multi-label store Who Boutique, takes us through a week in her busy life. Owning a boutique means every day looks different – from meetings with buyers and social media content creation to serving customers and doing admin, Tali’s outfits need to be comfortable and cute.

Favouring oversized silhouettes, sneakers and well-curated vintage pieces paired with her favourites from the shop floor, her outfits are always effortlessly cool. Here’s what she wore across the week.

Monday

As a business owner, none of your days ever look the same. This particular Monday, I was in and out of the store between meetings and buying for the store. Comfort is always the priority, so I usually centre my outfits around whichever pair of sneakers I want to wear that day. Today I’m in my favourite Asics (don’t ask me the make of them, your guess is as good as mine) with my very loved leather pants from a brand called Day Birger et Mikkelsen (that we stock).

I’m a 5’1 girl living in a Scandi world which means I constantly have to get my pants taken up at the dressmaker’s. I’ve decided I’m on strike, hence the rolled waistband. I put them on with this super cute Paloma Wool long sleeve we have in store and a vintage Prada bag that doesn’t fit anything but looks cute as, so who cares?

Tuesday

I was in the store helping customers and doing admin (always). It might be two degrees outside but since I keep the store at a comfortable 28 degrees, a skirt seemed appropriate. I picked this breathtaking Paloma Wool skirt and paired it with my dad’s vintage leather jacket and a pair of Ba&sh boots. I rarely put something ‘girly’ on, so when I do, I make sure to put something ridiculously oversized with it so I feel more myself.

Wednesday

It was an all-white operation until I spilled my matcha all over myself (this photo was taken pre-spill). Then I was a tie-dyed green and white girl, and this is why we can’t have nice things. We have just dropped our in-house brand Exotic Import and I’m pretty obsessed with these long-sleeved T-shirts.

Also, I’ll take any excuse to match my sneakers to my top so I’ve put our ‘Angel on Earth’ debut release with my silver and blue Nike shoes, and these Gimaguas pants that just came in. We are currently receiving all of our summer stock, so it was another comfort-first day to unpack and sort through all the fun new things landing.

Thursday

I worked from home which meant tracksuits all day long. Also, a change of hair. Having curly hair is a blessing and a curse but mostly just tiring because it’s really high maintenance, so occasionally I treat myself to a blow-wave. I pulled out these Karlaidlaw spider pants that I’ve had for years, and the fit is unmatched.

I styled them with one of my boyfriend’s crew necks because we all know boyfriend jumpers magically fit better. I spent most of the day taking calls and replying to emails but I always feel more productive when I’m in-store, so it’s rare I take a work-from-home day.

Friday

Friday was a high heels day, and the Paloma Wool Leslie style is by far the most comfortable heel I have ever worn. I paired them with another pair of jeans (that are way too long for me) and this vintage red Adidas jacket I pulled out from the depths of my mum’s cupboard. I’m constantly mixing new and old and love my clothes to have a little story behind them so this jacket has been getting a lot of wear and a whole new life. It was extra cold today so I put on this deep dark blue snakeskin jacket from the shop and haven’t taken it off since.
