WORDS BY DAISY HENRY AND DEE SALMIN
“I have to plan an outfit that will suit the set colours (without clashing) and obviously choose something that looks hot.”
If you don’t work in a corporate environment, it can be difficult to know how to dress for the day. Instead of having a set uniform of crisp white shirts and tailored black pants (as much as I love both), an ever-changing schedule means every morning requires a set of questions. Am I running around, or just sitting at my desk? Do I need to dress specifically for a project? And most importantly, will I be in the background of someone’s TikTok?

This week, Triple J presenter and producer, Dee Salmin, steps us through her working wardrobe. Having joined Triple J back in 2021, Dee’s role as co-host of The Hook Up (a podcast about sex, relationships and dating), means she’s responsible for plotting out interviews, scripting, editing and of course, presenting.
It makes sense then that Dee’s outfits typically reflect the changing nature of her week. While she might be working from home one day, she could be playing dress-ups for a mystery project, going live on air or filming content the next. This week, her wardrobe is a fun combination of secondhand finds, colour-coordinated Crocs, her favourite singer’s merch and a vintage pink sequin dress.
Monday
I start my work week how everybody deserves to start their work week: without the Sunday scaries. And that’s because I work from home. I spend so much of the week having to think about my outfits and being ‘semi-presentable’ for shoots, so on Mondays I love not having to put in the effort. I wear the same shirt-and-no-pants-greasy-hair combo, with my favourite Beatles shirt I’ve worn to death for the past 13 years.
Workwise, Mondays are usually full of admin for both Pip and I. We plan our podcasts and digital content for the week and have lots of meetings with other teams and our bosses.
Tuesday
Tuesdays are usually when I script my interviews, watch our vodcast back and make any last-minute editorial changes before it goes live in the arvo. But this Tuesday we had our presenter photoshoot, so it was a day full of hair and makeup and photos.
Two years ago I wore a cute vintage pink dress which made me look super young, so this year I decided to go for a more ‘mature’ look, AKA all black. The top I’m wearing is one of my favourite tops ever – I got it at a Red Cross sale in Perth and it’s a Junya Watanabe x Comme de Garcons collab. The pants are Face Off and the shoes are Dr. Martens.
In the arvo, I had another shoot for the Hottest 100 video. The theme is a secret (stay tuned for mid-January) but I wore a floral vintage nightie and white leather Chou Le sandals.
Wednesday
On Wednesday mornings I come into work before 8am to present on Triple J breakfast with Conchetta and Luka where I talk about what’s on The Hook Up that week. This Wednesday, I spoke about dating with big age gaps (the text line went off).
I got a new (secondhand) top from Opp Spot – an online website that sells second-hand fashion, so I was excited to wear that (also super excited about the new dildo I received, see pictured). My silver pants are vintage and I wear them a lot to work because they’re so comfy. On Wednesdays, I usually record and edit interviews for Thursday’s podcast and we script our Tuesday vodcast, which we film on Thursdays.
Thursday
Thursdays are my favourite day of the work week because we record our Tuesday podcast episode and it’s so much fun! We film the whole thing on a set, so I have to plan an outfit that will suit the set colours (without clashing) and obviously choose something that looks hot.
This Thursday was ‘Ausmusic T-Shirt Day’, so I wore a signed shirt from one of my favourite artists, Kita Alexander. I paired it with some Face Off pants I got second-hand from Camberwell Markets and some Croc sneakers (I’m insanely anal about colour coordination).
Friday
On Fridays, I normally spend the day editing the Sunday show where we replay our podcasts from the week and organise the interviews for the following weeks. But this Friday it was our Triple J Christmas party! We had teams where we dressed up and played games and my team was Austin Powers themed. This was the outfit I pulled together. I found the dress in an op shop and my best friend Brendan got me those boots for my birthday a few years ago from Windsor Smith.
Keep up with Dee here.
