WORDS BY DAISY HENRY AND LUCINDA McGarrity
“Dressing feminine can be tricky in construction.”
If you don’t work in a corporate environment, it can be difficult to know how to dress for the day. Instead of having a set uniform of crisp white shirts and tailored black pants (as much as I love both), an ever-changing schedule means every morning requires a set of questions.
Am I running around, or just sitting at my desk? Do I need to dress specifically for a project? And most importantly, will I be in the background of someone’s TikTok?

This week, Lucinda McGarity steps us through her working wardrobe. Though every job is bound to change each day, Lucinda’s dual life as a project coordinator at a construction company and content creator means she’s constantly moving between two worlds.
For her nine-to-five, Lucinda could be driving between site visits, attending client meetings or working on admin at the office, requiring simple and comfortable outfits that can withstand a little mess. After hours, she switches into content creation mode. Whether she’s attending a store opening, a brand launch or a fashion event, Lucinda typically packs a makeup bag and an entirely different set of outfits – she’s mastered the art of a quick change in the car en route.
Monday
Mondays are unpredictable, so I keep my outfit simple and comfortable. I usually wear jeans, sneakers and a basic tee. Since I often need to head to a site during the day, I keep my steel-cap boots in the car just in case.
Dressing feminine can be tricky in construction, as I never know if I’ll be on-site, so I keep my silhouettes practical and focus on adding a feminine touch through accessories and makeup.
Tuesday
Tuesday was an office day, full of team meetings, administration tasks, reporting and the large volumes of documentation and finances that come with project management. I kept it simple again with my classic T-shirt and pants combo.
Wednesday
On Wednesday, I attended a tender visit to inspect a potential project we may pitch for. I dressed in my “site best”, which is a black polo, Rollas Eastcoast Flare jeans and steel-cap boots.
These flares are my favourite for working on-site – they’re incredibly comfortable, pair perfectly with my boots and add a touch of femininity to an otherwise unfeminine environment.
Thursday
Thursdays are always hectic, starting at 7am with multiple client meetings and site visits. I usually spend the day on-site, often moving between locations. For this, I like to wear my high-vis vest, a Muji long-sleeve T-shirt, Uniqlo C jeans and my steel-cap boots. To stay presentable for client meetings, I keep a clean polo or jacket handy since sites can get messy.
These days involve a lot of driving, so I always pack sunglasses. Thursdays also extend into my content creator life, with events after work, so I do my makeup in the car and bring a change of clothes. Thursdays truly have it all!
Friday
On Friday, I was on-site in an organisational capacity, so full site attire wasn’t necessary. With some projects continuing over the weekend, I often visit sites to ensure they’re properly set up, as the weekend team is smaller for handling crises. Since I had drinks planned after work, I wore my Rollas Flares, a Blanca shirt and steel-cap boots, bringing ballet flats to switch into later.
Keep up with Lucinda here.
