5 creatives style Converse’s latest Run Star Legacy CX Sneaker

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CONVERSE
WORDS BY EMMA ANVARI

“A chunkier and elevated version of the original, the added height is perfect for a shorty like me.”

Converse has added another style to its star-studded range of best-selling sneakers – the Run Star Legacy CX. Sporting a reworked version of the timeless and unmistakable Chuck Taylor design, the Run Star Legacy CX’s bold platform expertly blends comfort and style. It’s the type of footwear you’d imagine the cast of Stranger Things wearing if the show was set in 2022.

If its angular platform, ultra-comfortable cushioning and future-forward aesthetic haven’t given it away already, this is a shoe that’s made to stand out. Featuring a lightweight CX midsole and sock liner to ensure you stay light on your feet, the style also boasts a winged tongue, exaggerated collar and heel bumper to allow for seamless removal for when you’re on the go.

So whether you have the time to sit and intricately undo your laces, or if you’re the loosen-them-and-start-tugging type, these shoes have got you covered. In search of some sartorial inspiration, I asked some of my favourite Australian and New Zealand creatives to show me how they style them.

As long as I can remember I’ve owned a pair of Converse high-top sneakers. A true classic. What I love about the Run Star Legacy platform sneaker is the boldness! A chunkier and elevated version of the original, the added height is perfect for a shorty like me.

[I’m] wearing them with my purple Adidas snap trackpants and my favourite Ganni vest. The wider fit and cropped length of my pants show off my ankles nicely. This highly spirited outfit is a subtle nod to the ’70s and reflects my colourful but practical nature. It’s giving ‘Jungle Boogie’!

There actually hasn’t been a day in my life (since age four) that I haven’t owned a pair of Converse. They are a non-negotiable staple and all the cool girlies wear them, from my late Nanna to Avril Lavigne. Black is my go-to, so naturally, I’m wearing my black Run Star Legacy CXs with my vintage leather pants, cut-out black tank, oversized black leather bag, blacked-out sunnies and silver accessories.

I’ve also been playing around with classic silhouettes (puffed sleeves, tennis skirts) because there’s something really beautiful about the contrast between the Run Star Legacy CXs (a modern twist on the classic chuck ’70s) and vintage shapes. In the summer I’m feeling them with a black or white lace vintage maxi dress, most likely sheer, with swimmers underneath for the daytime and cute high-waisted knickers for the night. So versatile really!

The Converse Run Star line is such a staple in my wardrobe; platforms are such a must for hiding the fact you’re under 5’2. I feel like the Legacy CX’s are such a great shoe for a leg warmer and miniskirt moment – they really connect the bottom of the outfit to the top. I paired them with [a] slightly baggy shirt, white leg warmers to match the platform and a denim mini skirt to break up the colours.

This series especially has some really cute colourways – pink makes up a majority of my wardrobe so it’s sick to have some shoes to match. The shoes are so versatile and comfortable, you could absolutely rock them with [a] pair of pants/jeans [and] I certainly pulled up to law school in them. Nothing serves [a] Legally Blonde slay like a pair of pink platforms

Comfort and colour are key for my day-to-day ’fits. I love to be bold in all areas of my design practice and particularly when it comes to personal style.

I’ve styled my Converse Run Star Legacy CX sneakers with Golden Goose track pants paired with an oversized Acne Studios tee. The sneakers have a real track star feel to them and [I] wanted to give them that sporty chic styling they deserve.

When it comes it fashion you can be creative, simple or daring. For me, fashion is a representation of all diversities and cultures. Just a glimpse of an outfit allows a passerby to look twice.

It’s about colour, texture and depth more so than trying on a million ’fits to get the right one for the day. It’s never about fitting in a box but creating your own box, or circle. Make your own shape to fit the fashion world and always take up space.

You can find yourself a pair now online here or at your favourite sneaker store.
