Living the dream.
Advancing technology and the rise of social media has given holiday snaps a whole new meaning.
People aren’t just taking photos of jaw-dropping landscapes or ancient landmarks anymore. The internet wants to know what you’re eating, what you’re wearing and, ever-importantly, where you’re staying.
We know, sharing your adventures online to make your friends jealous isn’t the point of going on holiday. Well, not the main point, at least.
But it stands to reason that if everything around you is so beautiful, you have to immortalise it with a photo, you’re probably in for a good time.
We’ve teamed up with Expedia.com.au to bring you our picks for some of the most Instagrammable hotels and resorts around the world.
Hotel Plaza Athénée, Paris
In the heart of Paris, chances are everywhere you go is going to be beautiful. But the landmark Hotel Plaza Athénée has a certain je ne sais quoi. Particularly worth capturing is the hotel’s red and white façade and your own balcony view of the Eiffel Tower – which is less than 2km from the front door. To make your followers extra jealous, check out the full-service Dior Institut spa.

The best thing about a beachfront resort is the choice to hang out beachside or poolside. The perfect sunbathing shot is achievable at both at AYANA Resort on Bali’s Bukit peninsula. Even more enticing, however, is the opportunity for a super romantic dip in a bath full of rose petals. Camera-savvy partner not a must, but it definitely helps.

St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London
If you’re going to take photos anywhere in this hotel, it has to be on the staircases. Keemala, Phuket
Have you ever wanted to stay the night in a treehouse – sans the bugs, cold air and sleeping bag on the floor? Keemala’s pods and villas are built at tree height to give you the greenest birds-eye view of the Phuket rainforest. To be enjoyed, of course, while taking a dip in your private outdoor pool.

Ice Hotel, Jukkasjärvi
Sweden’s Icehotel is inhabitable art. Reborn at the hands of new artists every year, its ‘cold rooms’ are sculpted entirely out of ice. An average temperature of -5 to -8ºC will make for some unique #outfitoftheday photos, but you can save your lighter winter gear for the rest of your stay in the hotel’s warm rooms.

Jade Mountain Resort, Soufrière
For some, the ocean is better to look at rather than swim in. That’s more than okay when your balcony is a pool and the Caribbean Sea is right beneath you. The Jade Mountain Resort’s rainbow pool tiles will brighten up any bikini pic, and the lush green mountain view won’t hurt either.
