I tried wearing an anti-camel toe g-string (yes it’s a thing)

“The underwear comes with some additional padding built into the crotch – the camel toe proofer.”

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I love a massive pair of undies. A big pair of comfy cotton underwear that I can hoick up my stomach and makes my arse look diabolically flat has a special place in my heart.

I’ll always side with Bridget Jones when she’s contemplating the eternal dilemma of sex appeal (a slinky thong) versus practicality (waist-high briefs), and of course, choosing the latter. In the days before I started to take a little more pride in my gym appearance, a friend of mine kindly pointed out that the visible-pant-line protruding out of my lulu shorts was, yes, criminally offensive. I chose to ignore her. Who cares, I’m just here to workout, not be vain!

My stubbornness persisted until I was faced with a photo of my bum looking like it had been sliced into separate, bumpy pieces. I could hardly tell where it started and where it ended. Hand to my mouth aghast at the state of my jigsaw-puzzled behind, I stopped being belligerent and swore off my beloved briefs in search of something a little more flattering.

Who am I kidding – there’s no point in squatting if I can’t exercise some vanity. My friend was thrilled by the revelation. Despite now being a grown up and settled into my seamless thong era, the horrors of my shorts riding up and continuously pulling them out from my crotch persist.

So, when I was tasked with putting some camel toe-proof underwear by Posy Intimates to the test, I was excited. Posy was founded on wanting to deter the annoyance of activewear not staying put, leggings riding up and the notorious camel toe making an unwelcome appearance. Could they be the solution to my problems?

The Road Test

When I opened the parcel and lifted out The Active G, I was immediately impressed with how silky-smooth the fabric felt between my fingers. The buttery goodness fit and flattered my figure seamlessly, with no pinching, squeezing or gaping. It’s the kind of fit that makes you look at your own reflection in the mirror, smoothing down the contours of your waist and hips with your hands and think ‘yes, my god you look excellent.’

The underwear comes with some additional padding built into the crotch – the camel toe proofer. I’ll admit that at first it felt a bit odd. The sensation was like wearing an awkwardly sitting sanitary towel and I wasn’t overly convinced I’d warm to it. But once I moved it around and arranged it to align with my shape, I barely noticed it was there.

I trotted off to my morning CrossFit class, knowing they’d have to keep up with everything from running and rowing (the ultimate camel toe offender I’ve found) to barbell work and gymnastics. Before class started, I made sure to get the girls to check how my ass looked, getting them to feel around my bum to scope out how seamless the underwear truly is.

We all agreed it looked slick. I poked at the padding, pointing out to a guy friend that I was testing an anti-camel toe thong. He looked perturbed and I was just pleased with the shock factor of the whole interaction. Girlhood!

So, how did they pull through? As a gym girl, I get so fed up with spending most of a session half focussed on pulling my thong out from literally inside of me (sorry). It’s just not cute. This time, I’d forgotten I was even wearing any underwear and could pay attention to nailing my gruelling session.

With no risk of a camel toe or aesthetically displeasing VPL, I felt secure, comfortable and able to move freely, which is all I could ask for when breaking a big sweat. A high-waisted G-string that I think delivers on sex appeal and practically? Yes please.
