WORDS BY FASHION JOURNAL

Books and bling.

What happens in someone’s shopping cart is usually personal business. Orders are placed in the soft glow of your digital screen and eventually rock up in slightly-squished boxes from the mailman. But as it turns out, we at Fashion Journal love knowing the contents of these orders.

As a form of shopping inspiration (or just plain ol’ snooping), you can find us swapping photos and details of our latest acquisitions in the FJ office. In the age of mass dropshipping, people have become accustomed to accepting online orders will be a hit or miss. In order to honour the hits, we’ve crowdsourced some of the best purchases we’ve made over the past couple of months.

A post shared by Paris Georgia (@paris__georgia)

Like all the other girlies, I have had my eye on a few pieces from Paris Georgia for a while. I’ve particularly fawned over the Florian Singlet since its release, so when it was marked as an end-of-season item, I simply had to snap it up at the reduced price before it was gone. Although versatile and extremely flattering, it’s a size too big as my normal size was out of stock, but it’s nothing a few alterations – or DIY pinning and taping – can’t fix.

I bought this book on an airport whim, which has historically been a hit-or-miss situation for me. During the two-hour plane trip, I quite seriously didn’t put it down – resulting in my tiny cup of Diet Coke flying all over the pages during turbulence. And I didn’t even mind!

Sorrow and Bliss is the critically-acclaimed novel written by Australian author Meg Mason. It follows a sorely self-aware and deeply funny narrator in Martha, a London writer looking back at the dissolution of her marriage. Without spoiling anything, it touches on family, relationships and the heartbreaking effects of mental illness. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll spill your little drink.

A post shared by Anna Rossi (@annarossijewellery)

Although I am (supposed to be) on a bit of a savings kick recently, I must admit that this February I was a bit cheeky and bought myself a treat to celebrate reaching my monthly goal early.

I rewarded myself with a Gold Cube Chain necklace from Melbourne brand Anna Rossi Jewellery. It’s a highly versatile piece that goes with just about any outfit and can be layered with other necklaces or worn alone. Since the price point is on the more affordable side, the cost per wear is great too.

I had previously bought a gift for a friend from Anna Rossi and can confirm that the brand’s customer service is warm, prompt and incredibly helpful. I highly recommend having a snoop at its products if you’re hunting for gifts or, like me, looking to reward yourself.

A post shared by ADSB ANDERSSON BELL (@anderssonbell)

Amid the rise of the DIY denim skirt, I happened across a fun asymmetrical mini from one of my favourite brands Andersson Bell. I had it stored away in my digital basket for a couple of weeks, until I was notified that it had gone on sale on Ssense. It’s a great neutral alternative to blue denim, and I love the asymmetrical cut and patchwork details.

A post shared by Go-To (@gotoskincare)

I managed to score a bottle of Go-To Skincare’s super-sized Face Hero Extra over the summer break. And my goodness is my skin thankful that I did! I hadn’t used this heralded beauty product for a few years but my skin was instantly pleased by its return. The lightweight face oil – featuring ingredients like sweet almond oil, jojoba oil and macadamia oil – nourishes my skin and has felt really balancing and calming.

A post shared by Loki Patera (@lokipatera_lab)

I tend to dress quite minimalistic and am usually always in all-black. So, when it comes to jewellery, I’m obsessed with a chunky, statement piece that can tie my whole outfit together. If it’s dainty, I don’t want it!

My Loki Patera Petalura earrings encapsulate that whole sharp and unusual aesthetic. Inspired by a giant dragonfly commonly found in Wingecarribee swamp, they never fail to receive compliments on a night out.

A post shared by Swisse Beauty (@swissebeauty)

The Swisse Beauty’s Multivitamin Beauty Complex* is a new morning go-to, firmly securing a place on my bedside table. Covering beauty bases like skin, hair and nail health, the multipurpose supplement also contains 13 vitamins, minerals and herbals that support daily struggles including stress, fatigue and bloating (tick).

I’m notorious for complaining about how tired I am at work every day (seriously, I won’t shut up about it), so the Multivitamin Beauty Complex is a bit of a godsend when it comes to feeling like I’ve had some extra zzzs.

A post shared by Zulu & Zephyr (@zuluandzephyr)

Byron Bay is home to the flagship stores of many of my favourite labels, so naturally, my recent trip there resulted in one too many shopping trips that (without any regrets) may have broken the bank. This cap from Zulu & Zephyr was originally an impulse purchase to protect my skin from the beating Byron sun, but has slowly made its way into my rotation of go-to accessories. A hot girl walk and greasy hair day staple!

A post shared by MECCA MAX (@meccamax)

I’m a religious eyeliner-wearer and always opt for a plain black wing. While I can appreciate a signature look, my new year’s resolution was to become more playful with my makeup – I own far too many products not to. Before I dove headfirst into electric-blue shadow, I thought I’d level up my liner with this creamy khaki colour from Mecca Max.

I like it blended on my lid with a few good coats of black mascara (if there are clumps, it adds to the effect IMO). It doesn’t smudge, is easy to use and makes me feel Almost Famous-like, which is always the goal.
