This week, exploring East London with digital creator and Pash Social Content Manager, Bianca Hill. After moving just six months ago, she’s found herself easily settling into London life (particularly in summer). “It’s a melting pot of cultures, there’s always something going on,” she says.

“Aside from the obvious ‘easy to travel’ answer, something I’ve noticed in London is how much people get amongst the sunny days. In Australia, you really take for granted the sun (I would even go as far as to say that I hate the never-ending heat of Australian summers), but when it’s a nice day in London, the city is absolutely buzzing.

“I live in East London and what makes it so special for me is that it feels like I picked up my hometown (Collingwood, Melbourne) and plopped it into London,” Bianca says. “The community, the arts, the food, the drinks, the people – it’s almost uncanny, but I love feeling like I have a home away from home.” Below, Bianca shares some of her favourite places to visit in her city.

Eat and drink

With a weekly rotating menu and a neighbourhood restaurant feel, Tom’s Pasta in Hackney Wick is one of Bianca’s favourites. “Get the nduja beef shin lasagne and thank me later (I don’t even like lasagne if that tells you anything!).”

Specialising in the classic ‘smash burger’, Supernova in Soho is a traditional burger joint with an already-cult following, despite only opening last year. “Try to go in an off-peak time to avoid the queues, but this is legitimately the best burger I’ve ever eaten in my whole life.”

Pophams

If you’re looking for a cafe to settle into for the morning, Bianca recommends Pophams, an artisanal bakery located in London Fields (though they have a few spots across the city). “A great space to work from and I adore their maple bacon pastry,” she says.

Considering London is known for its pubs, choosing just one is no easy feat – but Bianca recommends The Chesham Arms in Hackney Central. “I’m a pub girlie through and through. Plus, you can get pizzas delivered directly to the table from Yard Sale! They have a cute outdoor area that’s always such a vibe when the weather is nice.”

The perfect day

“This is going to be the most cliche Australian in London’ answer, but my ideal day would start with a reformer pilates class, a stroll through Broadway Market and the Columbia Road Flower Markets with an iced matcha. [Then I’d finish by] capping off the day with a drink at whatever pub has a pool table and either a Sunday roast in winter or a picnic in London Fields in summer.”

Shop

With a mix of high-end boutiques and curated vintage stores (East London is the home of the famous Brick Lane), Shoreditch is Bianca’s favourite spot for shopping. “I really love Shoreditch,” she says. “It’s a great mix of high, low and vintage shops.”
