Book review: The One

Expect a few lamp-on, late nights ahead.

A little like an episode of Black Mirror, The One is a little too close to reality for comfort.

It starts with a dating site that promises to match users with ‘the one’ based on a swab of their DNA. From there, the novel follows five characters in parallel.

It’s gripping from the start, and quickly builds in both intensity and pace. With literally every hallmark of a bestseller (terminal illness, serial murder, infidelity), it borders on overkill at times.

But The One is enjoyable nonetheless. A guilty pleasure, of sorts.
