Culture shock.
Calling all pop culture devotees.
Here are a handful of people paying tribute to your favourite icons – real and fictional. Perfect for that friend who’s seen every episode of Seinfeld, or when you’re in a ‘treat yourself’ mood.
TWYLAMAE (pictured above)
If TwylaMae’s work looks familiar, that’s probably because it is. The illustrator has been helping fill the pages of FJ for the last few years with her colourful, comic-style line drawings. When she’s not illustrating for yours truly, Twyla is busy recreating cartoon images of her favourite on-screen characters from shows like Seinfeld and Broad City. Her work is available on tees, totes and as prints. For $50 she’ll even draw you and your mates in one of her existing sitcom designs.
Loser Hands
Loser Hands is a Melbourne-based designer specialising in custom pictures of famous personalities. The illustrator behind the moniker, Nina Avalon, hand draws each caricature which is then digitally printed onto 100 per cent cotton shirts. Select from designs including Larry David, Judge Judy, Tyra Banks, Frida Kahlo and more. Nina also takes custom orders for people and pets, so you can have a friend’s face immortalised in cartoon-form. The prints are available across bags and onesies too, making your next gift a no-brainer.
CMFY
CMFY is the easiest way to inject humour into your day, and look good while doing it. The label specialises in unique sock designs referencing Seinfeld, avocados, cacti and more. Each item is totally unique, aiming to provide comfort without compromising on aesthetic. The aptly-named ‘Socks about Nothing’ will set you back $10, emblazoned with your favourite sitcom pals Jerry, George, Kramer and Elaine. CMFY’s entire product range is designed in Melbourne, with more items expected to drop in 2018. Do yourself a favour and get CMFY.
Peeler Stickers
Peeler Stickers does a lot more than its name suggests. The online street culture brand also offers a custom printing service for creatives. Alongside a range referencing famous hip hop artists like Drake, Tupac and Chance The Rapper, Peeler Stickers prides itself on promoting local individuals and businesses. Think personalised decals, wall art, shop front displays, business cards, promo tees and more. If you’re looking to take your personal project to the next level, we suggest you pay a visit.
