DOH! Donut Recipe

These donuts are a tad healthier than their fried relatives, but just as tasty!

“Dear Homer, IOU one emergency donut. Signed, Homer”.

Whether taking these to school, work, or the local power-plant, make like Mr Simpson and indulge in these donutty treats…on one condition, leave donuts for everyone else 

INGREDIENTS
3 cups plain flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
100g unsalted butter
2/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup golden syrup
1 large egg
2 tsp vanilla
4 cups icing sugar
2 egg whites
pink food colouring
hundred and thousands

Method
1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Prepare 2 baking sheets by lining with baking paper.
2. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon
3. In a large bowl with an electric beater,  beat butter, brown sugar, and egg on medium speed until creamy
4. Add syrup, and vanilla and continue to mix
5. Gradually add in dry ingredients until smooth.
6. Divide dough in half and wrap in plastic and place in the fridge for 30 minutes
7. Between two sheets of plastic, roll out dough to about 1 cm thick
8. Cut out dough with a large circle cookie cutter (or glass), with a smaller hole in the middle
9. Bake for 10-12 minutes
10. For royal icing, beat egg whites, icing sugar, and food colouring (adding water or more icing sugar if necessary)
11. Pipe around cooled cookies and let spread
12. Sprinkle with hundreds and thousands
13. Eat ferociously…similar to Homer Simpson
