Blue wine is real and it’s horrifying

Pls stop.

Wine rules. It tastes delicious, it enhances the taste of food and it can actually be good for you. The only downside I can find is that you can’t drink wine with breakfast. But that’s why the French invented champagne, right?

Yet today I discovered one wine hurdle I can’t overcome. Blue wine.

For whatever reason, someone thought it was a good idea to make wine the same colour as Listerine.

The company is called Gïk and it cites “fun” as its reason. The website reads:

“Gïk is born for fun. To shake things up a little and see what happens. To create something new. Something different.”

Sure, it’s different. But I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that having a mouth tinted blue like you’ve just downed eight blueberry Cruisers is probably not ideal??

As for the wine itself, Gïk sources its grapes from different Spanish and French vineyards with wineries located in La Rioja, Zaragoza and Courthèzon.

Apparently Gïk then “improves”the colour and flavour of the grapes using food technology, adding two organic pigments to red and white grapes. These are indigo and anthocyanin – a pigment which comes from the very skin of the grapes used to make wine.

You can learn a whole lot more at the website here.

Meanwhile, I’m good with red. Thanks.
