‘Splash’ is getting a remake and Channing Tatum will play the mermaid

In an announcement that’s breathing new life into a certain Zoolander quote, Splash is getting a remake and Channing Tatum is playing the mermaid.

…erm, merMAN.

After teasing that a remake was in the works, producers have finally made it official, announcing Channing Tatum and Jillian Bell as taking the roles of Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks respectively.

If Jillian’s name doesn’t ring a bell (see what we did there?), you may remember her as the drug dealer from 22 Jump Street who delivered the most glorious improvised one-liners of the whole goddamn movie.

Accordingly, the gender swap shouldn’t be the only change from the original. Screenwriter Marja-Lewis Ryan is set to pen a new script, and with Channing and Jillian on board, it’s going to be funny af.
