A Hello Kitty exhibition is happening

Here’s hoping Australia is next.

The last we heard of the Hello Kitty reign was the diner opening in Sydney. Well now, Hello Kitty is turning 40, and what better way to celebrate than to deck out EMP museum in Seattle with a retrospective exhibition.

Hello! Exploring the Supercute world of Hello Kitty has already received record-breaking crowds in Los Angeles, and global giant Sanrio plans to take it to other museums across America.

With themed versions of almost every product possible from aeroplanes to Dr Martens, the exhibition will include 600 items spanning all the way back to vintage pieces from the ’70s and ’80s. The exhibition will also feature 40 mixed media works by contemporary artists to showcase the massive influence Hello Kitty has had worldwide.

The cute kitty’s reach into pop-culture will be shown through modern pieces such as Lady Gaga’s dress made entirely from Hello Kitty stuffed toys and Katy Perry’s bustier.

If you’re in Seattle and a fan of the icon of kawaii (really, who isn’t?) you can check out the exhibition from November 14 – May 15. Here’s hoping Australia is next.
