A LGBTQI+ Disney Princess could be on the horizon

Endless possibilities.

Disney’s newest princess, Moana, is about to hit our screens. It’s pretty noteworthy news for two reasons: she’s the first Disney Princess of Polynesian decent and her story doesn’t focus on romance.

While many of us will always compare Disney’s new-gen flicks to those of the ’90s (read: Elsa is no Fa Mulan), we can’t deny there are some super positive changes taking place inside that magical castle.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Moana’s directors, Ron Clements and John Musker, hinted there could soon be a LGBTQI+ Disney prince or princess.

“It seems like the possibilities are pretty open at this point,” Clements said on the topic.

“It would be driven by a director or a directorial team that really wanted to push that and if [Disney Animation’s chief creative officer] John Lasseter liked the idea, but I would say we haven’t ever really [had] restrictions placed on what we’ve done,” added Musker.

Here’s to moving with the times.
