Netflix may be upping is prices for Australian audiences only, because life’s not fair

Help me, I’m poor.

It’s a sad day for all. In Australia, at least.

Recent reports by The Australian indicate the current Netflix model we know and love may be about to go up in price. Apparently the streaming service has been playing with fee changes, for Aus customers only.

Not cool.

Reports state the changes are currently under trial, with a monthly cost increase being tested. The trial has seen prices go from $8.99 to $9.99 for the standard service, $11.99 to $13.99 for the double-device service and $14.99 to $17.99 for the Ultra HD premium service.

“We continuously test new things at Netflix and these tests typically vary in length of time,” a Netflix spokesperson has said.

“In this case, we are testing slightly different price points to better understand how consumers value Netflix. Not everyone will see this test and we may not ever offer it generally.”

It’s thought that if the changes do roll out, it will help the company recuperate costs lost to GST changes.
