Photographer recreates ridiculously sexist ads from the ’50s

Role reversal.
Lebanese photographer Eli Rezkallah has decided to reverse stereotypical gender roles in a new shoot.
Sparked by a conversation he overheard about how women are better off fulfilling their ‘womanly duties’, Eli has presented a humorous take on real advertisements from the 1950s.
“I went on to imagine a parallel universe, where roles are inverted, and men are given a taste of their own sexist poison,” he explains on his website.
Titled In A Parallel Universe, the series is equal parts funny and disturbing. Depicting men surrounded by dishes and being spanked by their wives for bringing home the wrong coffee, it serves as a reminder of how gender roles used to be portrayed by the media.
It’s no secret we’ve made huge strides towards equality in the few last decades, but alas, there’s still a long way to go.
Eli hopes showing the role reversal through a humorous lens will help spark a conversation about sexism.
