Roxy’s new sustainable swimwear line is made for a range of bodies

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ROXY
Words by Kate Streader

Swimmers should be made to fit you, not the other way around.

If you were raised as a woman, the words ‘swimsuit season’ have likely instilled some level of fear in you since you first became aware of your body. Togs can be unforgiving, especially if you weren’t blessed with the body of a bikini model.

You suddenly become very aware of all your insecurities, and ones you didn’t even know you had, as if your bathers are somehow acting as a magnifying glass. Unlearning the attitudes towards female bodies that have been shoved down our throats since we laid hands on our first Dolly magazine is tough and the ‘one size fits all’ approach to swimwear designs many brands seem to embrace definitely doesn’t help.

Rather than expecting you to suit its swimmers, Roxy’s new On The Beach line is designed to flatter a range of body types. The collection features varying levels of support up top and a variety of coverage options on the bottom. And, of course, it’s got a one-piece for those who just don’t feel comfortable in a ’kini.

The bottoms span cheeky and hipster cuts to high-waisted bottoms and even a swimwear-bike short hybrid. Up higher, there’s the option of a triangle bralette and two underwire styles with proper cups for larger busts. Lastly, the one-piece covers the tummy and arms.

Not only does the range aim to cater to different bodies, but the pieces are functional and surfer-friendly (read: you don’t have to worry about any flashing incidents because things won’t stay where they’re supposed to).

As for the colour palette, Roxy’s On The Beach line is fresh without being tied to trends. The one-piece comes in a classic white and black stripe print while the bike shorts and triangle tops are available in all-black.

The other bikinis come in a pastel salmon pink and a striking aqua hue, each of which complements any complexion. As well as being flattering, the On The Beach range is doing its part for our oceans, too.

Made from 100 per cent recycled materials, including recycled polyester and nylon, the sustainable range looks to reduce the environmental impact of buying new clothes as part of Roxy’s mission to “[take] a stand for Mother Earth” by making its swimwear as eco-conscious as possible

So, don’t spend the rest of the summer covering up because you don’t like how you look in swimmers. Buy some bathers that you feel comfortable and confident in, soak up some summer sunshine and saltwater, and take pride in your choice to shop consciously for the planet.
