Sydney fans, there’s a Women’s World Cup pop-up activation this week

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ADIDAS

WORDS BY NATALIE LI

Yeah the girls.

It’s hard not to be swept up in the fanfare and buzz of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023™ this year. With Australia and New Zealand hosting the prestigious, once-ever-four-year event, the soccer craze has been off the charts.

More and more of us are finding ways to scratch our football itch – but the hype extends past the 90-minute games; fans and spectators can indulge in their fan behaviour in more ways than ever now.

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been obsessing over adidas’ national Federation Kits and the endless TikTok content featuring our sporting gals. But what if there was a way to get among the action in real life, without needing tickets to the big games?

Until Sunday, adidas is taking over Mrs Macquarie’s Chair in Sydney with ‘stadium adidas’, giving fans an immersive playground to celebrate our sporting champs, practise their soccer skills and potentially win some prizes. It’s a huge experiential pop-up, 300 square metres of jam-packed fun.

It’s open every day this week from 11am to 8pm. Best bit? You can get a taste of what it’s like to be a professional athlete for free. You can walk in, but we recommend booking ahead of time to snag your desired time slot.

Split into three zones, the activation allows visitors to create their own experiences with the Women’s World Cup. First up in zone one is the Locker Room. Here, you get to marvel at the 10 national adidas Federation Kits made especially for the tournament.

Every day, there’s a new prize to be won here too. Hiding in one of the lockers, die-hard fans will have the chance to pick up an exciting prize – we’ve heard there’s some signed merch from your favourite players.

Next, head through The Tunnel. With the roar of thousands of fans thundering around you, grab a taste of what it’d be like out on the open field, playing alongside our national women’s soccer team. Remember to snap a pic too!

The Official Match Ball Room allows you to tour the current and past official match ball designs. This year’s ball, the OCEAUNZ, will be on display, you might even spot 20-year-old star, Mary Fowler.

In zone two, you’ll have the chance to be part of adidas’ campaign film, Play Until They Can’t Look Away. Alongside Mary Fowler, you can spot the likes of Jenna Ortega, David Beckham and Lionel Messi – and now, it’ll feature you. In this rainforest zone, look out for hidden gems among the trees. The last zone is split into two activations. First, you’ll meet a hologram version of superstar forward, Caitlin Foord. Then, try your hand (or should we say feet?) practising your soccer skills with German star Lena Oberdorf in the adidas bowling alley.

Want to be like your favourite Aussie player? Make your very own player card! Have a go at the craw machine in the arcade and see if you can nab yourself a miniature Official Match Ball. Make sure you take a photo in the Mirror Ball Room too! Visit before all the action packs down on Sunday.
