The silver lining to the current natural disaster sweeping the country is the way the nation and the world have banded together to support those affected.

Everyone from the state fire services like the CFA and RFS to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital have been receiving donations and filling the gaps the government has left behind, while evacuees continue to flee blocked areas of the east coast.

@spendwiththem is the latest initiative to emerge from the devastation. Started by local activist and bushfire survivor, Turia Pitt, just a few days ago, the account profiles people and business owners in fire-affected communities. The physical devastation of the fires is just the immediate effect, while the financial costs to businesses and tourism will continue well beyond the fire season.

People like The Harbour Bookshop in Ulladulla, the Stony Creek Farm distillery or Marita the Milton Mushroom farmer are receiving overwhelming support for their online businesses while the fire-ravaged properties get back up and running. Customers are able to purchase illustration prints, tote bags, restaurant vouchers, swimwear, wine, skincare, coffee beans and more.

Donate what you can and support small businesses. As always, we encourage you to shop locally.

This legend @miltonmushrooms is a mushroom grower on the south coast. Marita’s property was burned when fires swept through it twice in the last few weeks. Miraculously the house (and her 20 year old donkey) survived but the rest of the property was badly burned. You can #spendwiththem by picking up locally designed greeting cards, stickers, tote bags, zines, and her incredible Reishi Spiced Cacao and Just Reishi mushroom powders. Visit miltonmushrooms.com.au ❤️🍄
