Smize.

After almost a decade since she retired from modelling, Tyra Banks is making an official comeback to the industry. And to set the tone for her return, she’s changing her name and making a statement in the process, revealing she will now professionally go by ‘BanX’.

The move comes after her new Sports Illustrated cover, featuring the 45-year-old rocking a yellow string bikini. Ever a trailblazer, Tyra was the first black woman to grace the annual swimsuit edition of the magazine 22 years ago.

Talking to Entertainment Tonight, she explained her choice to rebrand and how the ‘X’ is an attempt to reject the stereotypical ideals around beauty.

“I want me coming out of retirement to be bigger than me, and for me to represent women to say, enough of this cookie-cutter thing,” she said.

“As much as we’ve progressed with beauty, there’s still a long way to go of opening up the door and redefining what it means, and so that X stands for ‘X what you heard about what beauty means.’ We are making a new rule that so many more people can fit into this beauty box. Let’s bust the box open.”

We hear you Tyra, and while the message might be a little lost in translation (still don’t really get the ‘X’), we’re all rooting for you.
