Booked and busy.

The weekend is the perfect time to celebrate the week that was. Although we all wish it was longer (hello four-day work weeks!), we all make the most of our weekends in our own ways.

Whether you’re popping bottles of Croser sparkling wine with your pals (may I suggest the new Croser x 78 Degrees rosé?), finding a moment to catch your breath after a hectic work week or finding some creative inspiration in unlikely places, the beauty of those two sweet days of rest is that it’s totally up to you how you spend it.

From spontaneous drinks and birthday celebrations to yoga and Sunday brunch rituals, thanks to social media, ‘the weekend’ has become a way to flex how great your life is. But, like anything posted on Instagram, I know it’s never the full story.

In need of some new leisure-time activities, I asked some of our favourite creatives what they had in store for their weekends. Grab a pen and paper, you’ll want to save these ideas for weekends to come.

Emma Cutri, she/her, co-founder of Sister Studios

I’m so excited for this weekend! My girlfriends and I are starting by celebrating a friend’s birthday on her rooftop! We will be having champagne and lots of dancing for sure! Saturday I will probably be a little dusty, but I’ll get up to take my little poodle for a walk and grab a coffee. I’m getting my hair cut by Lucia in Brunswick at 11am so I’ll feel fresh and cute no doubt!

My best friend just moved to Coburg so I’m going to head there and see the sights. We will get lunch and have plans to check out the farmer’s market. I’m excited for my Saturday night plans. [My friend] Sisi is leaving our studio, so we are going out to celebrate that! We are going to meet at her new shop for a celebratory drink [and] then go down to Hoi Hai, our fav dumpling place in Clifton Hill. Then we are going to go dancing somewhere, probably Old Bar! Sunday I’ll be working in the Sister shop which is always a fun way to spend my day. All the customers are so cute, and I can work on the garden out the front of the shop.

Working for your own business usually has fewer boundaries, in which you’ll end up working seven days a week whenever you have spare time. This is something that I’d like to get better at – creating a schedule and sticking with it. However, even though I don’t participate in a normal nine-to-five work week I still get so excited for that Friday night clock off.

After a huge previous weekend bringing our first speed dating event to life, I’ve treated myself to having no real plans for the weekend. Friday night I’ll be getting drinks with Caroline Moreau-Hammond from Becuming and Mary Minas from Sense of Self, two amazing small business owners, at Bar Liberty for probably too much wine.

My Saturday mornings begin the same every week. I live in Richmond, so the Gleadall Street Markets are the highlight of my week. I grab my coffee, some treats and all my fruit and veg all of which I usually consume lying in my sunroom reading a book. I’ve always thought I was an extrovert, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realised I’m more of an introverted extrovert, so I really respect that time by myself to recharge. I don’t put any restrictions on how I get there, whether it’s staying in bed doing fuck all, or enriching myself by working out, journaling or just enjoying the sun.

Aurelia St Clair, she/they, comedian and content creator

My sister-in-law is visiting from New South Wales this weekend so we’re treating ourselves to a girl’s trip to the Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs. We’re singing along to Fleetwood Mac on the way, and sharing baked goods I picked up at Gleadell St Market that morning. After four relaxing hours at the hot springs, we drove back to Melbourne.

I drop my wife and sister-in-law off at the hotel they’re staying at so they can spend some quality time together after three months apart. We plan to meet at Pellegrini’s for dinner around 6.30pm. I come home, walk our dog and send a thank you message to my friend who took Kenzo for a walk while we were at the springs. I find a car park surprisingly quickly for 6pm on a Saturday in the city.

We have a glass of wine on Bourke St and complain/laugh about the anti-vax protestors outside Parliament before ordering ravioli, spaghetti bolognese and lasagne. I love taking visitors here for dinner. My wife and sister-in-law are seeing my comedy show at the Fringe tonight, so we walk over to the Trades Hall where the girls get another drink and I head backstage. The show goes well and Tamara and her sister make plans for Sunday morning breakfast.

Daisy Henry, she/her, Fashion Journal contributor

This is a rare weekend where I have both Saturday and Sunday off – meaning that I’m not working and I have no pressing deadlines, so I’m determined to make the most of it. To kickstart the weekend, my Friday night plans involve heading into Carlton to meet a couple of friends who’ve just arrived home from a European summer. We’re meeting up for wine and pizza, and later seeing a movie at Cinema Nova. I’m so excited to see them after being apart for three months, plus there’s little more I love than the ritual of dinner and a movie.

For my birthday, my friend Jess gifted me with a Clay, Coffee and Croissant workshop hosted by Alicia McVilly. My birthday was back in August, but the workshop is this Saturday and I’ve been really looking forward to having a chance to get my hands dirty, unplug, and let the creativity flow (though I am determined to make a coffee mug). It’s at Collingwood House, and I’m excited to finally see the beautiful, vintage space in person (especially the iconic floor-to-ceiling windows).

Afterwards, we have plans to get lunch at The Commons Collective and sit outside in the sun. We started a book Instagram account recently, so we figured it’d also be a nice chance to plan future posts and shamelessly take some photos for the page. Though it’s just a hobby, carving out a space to write about our love for books and spend time together has been an invaluable creative escape.

On Sunday, I’m looking forward to having a slow morning, and then going to a fromagerie on Lygon street with my partner and friend to celebrate her birthday. I also know I’ll be popping into Readings for a browse and will likely buy another book that I absolutely do not need.
