Love is in the air.
When I envision a truly fairytale, first-kiss-at-sunset romantic scenario, the focus is always on the outfits. Location is important, yes – but once I’m on the gondola, it’s all about the outfit. It honestly doesn’t even matter who’s in the gondola with me, as long as my eyelashes are fluttering and my ethereal gown is lightly flowing in the breeze.
In all seriousness, I truly enjoy dressing up for a date; leaving the house with a flutter of excited anticipation. Whether it’s with friends at the drive-ins or my partner at a fancy restaurant, the look will be carefully planned and coordinated – down to a swipe of colourful matching eyeliner. Why? Because I love love.

Two people who share the sappy sentiment are Sister Studios designers, Emma Cutri and Alice McIntosh. I was crushing hard after seeing the label’s new Autumn/Winter collection, A Charmed Life, make its runway debut at the Thornbury Bowls Club. With a tactile presentation of crushed velvet, drapey silk and baby-soft cotton, the fresh designs shone under the flickering floodlights.

Now with the collection’s official release, it’s a full-blown love affair. In typical Sister Studios fashion, the range offers a dynamic mix of slinky night-out separates and versatile everyday staples. A Charmed Life also debuts a baroque-inspired print by Melbourne textile designer Megan McNeill, which you can don in the form of the Vivienne dress, these adorable bike shorts or the Bella bikini (or all three, at the same time).

“Last year our winter collection was aptly named Love Language, and for this season we’ve again delved deeply into the symbolic ideas of love,” the pair said of the new range. “A Charmed Life is inspired by romance and the euphoria and excitement felt through amorous relationships. Featuring dreamy prints by some of our favourite local artists and the silhouettes you’ve come to know from us, we hope this new collection charms your socks off!”
Launching incrementally through April, you can shop the collection here.
