Alt-pop darlings, Mermaidens, release new single ‘Millennia’

Words by Ruby Staley

The second track from their forthcoming album.

New Zealand alt-pop group, Mermaidens, have blessed our ears with another single from their upcoming LP.

The song features soaring electric guitar and pop-esque bass loops and lyrically explores the intersection between social media, identity and reality.

In the chilling line, “hallucinations rule your world,” Mermaidens take on a Black Mirror style to critique the falsity of online personas.

But the modern dreamy video clip for Millennia is a fun coupling to the heavy sentiment of the track.

The group’s forthcoming album, titled Look Me In The Eye, is set to be released September 6, with pre-sale available for those who can’t wait.

And if that’s not enough Mermaiden goodness to look forward to, the group has also announced Bigsound sideshows in Brisbane and Melbourne next month.
