Bloom: Troye Sivan

Words by Bianca O’Neill

Talent.

An embarrassing amount of fascination has surrounded Sivan’s first single from Bloom, due to its naming as a metaphor for gay sex.

I say embarrassing, because most of the skilled and subtle subversiveness of this song was ignored, along with the excellent lyrical talent on show – all for the sake of a few article clicks.

For the most part, Sivan seems to have taken the fetishism in his stride, but beyond the clickbaity headlines lies an incredibly strong pop album. ‘My My My!’ is a riot of fun, while ‘The Good Side’ uncovers his heart in a delicate and raw love song that will make you cry.

And all this from such a young songwriter.
