Ready to go to war for the Alexander McQueen skull scarf.

There’s never been a better time to clean out your wardrobe. Between the state of the economy, Australia’s mounting textile waste problem and the fact that most of us are sitting on at least one regrettable Depop-era purchase, selling secondhand just makes sense. The only thing putting many people off? Seller fees.

Now, eBay has officially scrapped transaction fees, meaning you can list your pre-loved pieces without handing over a cut of the profit. And to mark the occasion, Australian pop royalty The Veronicas are raiding their own archives. If you’ve ever wanted to own a tiny piece of mid-2000s music history, this is your moment.

Ever at the forefront of cultural change, iconic singing duo Jess and Lisa Origliasso – famously known as The Veronicas – are among the first public figures to list pieces on eBay since seller fees were removed. And as people who happily spend hours sifting through op shop bins, browsing the curated racks of local vintage sellers and scrolling intently through online listings, we simply had to know which treasures the sisters would be pulling from their personal archives.

Among the pieces listed are an Alexander McQueen skull scarf and the pair of gold hoop earrings Lisa purchased after the duo signed their first record deal. Each item denotes a moment in the band’s history, and each holds a story the sisters are eager to pass on.

“The McQueen scarf has literally been everywhere with me and has seen so much since I bought it back in 2006,” Jess reminisces. “It’s been on tour, to LA house parties and late nights at Chateau Marmont – it’s like a little time capsule of that era of my life.”

Eagle-eyed fans may recognise the iconic scarf from the ‘angsty, early-2000s chapter’ of The Veronicas. “It was such a core part of our identity back then,” Jess says. “It’s one of those items that just holds that energy, like a snapshot of who we were in that moment.”

Also up for auction is a customised black bomber jacket, a one-of-a-kind item featuring ‘Reishi Baby’ embroidered on its back. It’s a piece Lisa often wore to fan engagements and one she holds close to her heart. “The embroidery on the back is a bit of a ‘if you know, you know’ moment, but the memories stitched into it mean everything to me.”

Clothes aren’t the only items fans can expect to see. The Veronicas are also listing a Fender guitar, used throughout the band’s live shows, and a Big Muff pedal, known for its thick, sustaining, violin-like tone. In addition to tour memorabilia, the sisters are also selling some otherworldly collectables, like Lisa’s antique witch’s scrying mirror from the 1840s, purchased while on tour in London and imbued with a dark, mysterious energy.

Choosing which parts of their history to part with wasn’t easy. “It was emotional in the most beautiful, cathartic way, like opening little time capsules filled with memories of who we were in those moments. At the same time, it felt like gently closing chapters to create space for new energy, creativity and memories,” Jess tells us.

The twins describe the process as almost mystical. Something is worth keeping, Jess says, if it still holds their heartbeat, if it has the power to transport them back to a moment in time. But something worth passing on has a different kind of magic. If Lisa can imagine a fan holding the item and feeling more connected to The Veronicas, music, or even their own story, she knows it’s time to let go.

“These pieces have lived entire chapters with us; they’ve seen the highs, the chaos, the growth. We’ve had some of our best memories with them, but when it feels like their story with us is complete, we know they’re ready to be passed on,” Lisa says. “We love the idea that they’ll go on to help someone else create their own memories! It’s like the energy keeps moving.”

The eBay auctions of The Veronicas’ items are available now via @JessieVeronica and @LisaMarieVeronica and end at 7pm AEST on Friday 22 May.
