Little Boots: Working Girl

Pop’s true underdog.

Little Boots really is pop’s true underdog.

She was practically ignored and dropped by her label with her debut album Hands, but had the drive to start her own label, now she’s back with her third record and her strongest effort yet.

Musically, Working Girl pulls a huge number of references from ’90s dance, house and pop, to the point where it might turn some off. The album works best when it plays up a detached coolness.

‘Taste It’ and ‘Better in the Morning’ being the best of the bunch. A few of the tracks, however, do struggle under the weight of the production, with Boots’ vocals not quite strong enough to pull it off.

Still, if you’re a fan of power suits, pastels and voguing, Working Girl is totally on point.
