Street snaps: Panorama Festival 2017

Jam-packed.

Panorama Festival is renowned for its ability to draw some of the biggest names in music. This year’s three-day extravaganza did not disappoint, with headlining sets from Frank Ocean, Solange, Tame Impala, Alt J, A Tribe Called Quest and more.

The weekend festivities began with a promising weather forecast. Each day we made our way to the tranquil regions of Randalls Island, where we were greeted by the wafting scents from the festival’s excellent food offering. The drinks were constantly flowing from the Renegade Lemonade Stand and there was plenty of Bud Light to go around.

With expert curation, Panorama organisers ensured everyone had something special to enjoy. It wasn’t just bands and music to keep us occupied, with a variety of artistic displays set up around the event.

When it came to the Star-Spangled lineup, the crowds flocked. Firstly for Solange, radiant in her red Issey Miyake Pleats Please jumpsuit matched to her band’s uniform colour scheme. She treated us to an encore of ‘Cranes in the Sky’ and many tears were shed.

Frank Ocean’s performance was everything we dreamt it would be, poignant with emotion that stuck even after the lights went down.

Spike Jonze was there with his Steadicam, filming the show from angles we didn’t know existed.

As the days swept by, the acts kept on giving, with the inspiring Mitski and party-starting, Omar-S. We had a few Aussie idols to make us proud: Nick Murphy and of course, Tame Impala. The grassy hills and shady trees created comfortable viewing for the more chilled acts, one of which was Angel Olsen and her soul-stirring vocals. Each performance was inspirational, with every act converting at least one unlikely fan.

As the sun set on Sunday night, signifying the end of Panorama 2017, we all left the island satisfied with our dose of live music. It was an incredible experience, full of enthusiasm and equal exhaustion. Now the real question is, can next year’s jamboree live up to these impossible standards?
