Kimbra: Primal Heart

A renewed songwriting perspective.
NZ songstress Kimbra has recently made the move from LA to NYC and in the writing of her third LP, she shows how this change in mindset has delivered a renewed songwriting perspective.
This is evident in the single ‘Everybody Knows’ – a much more personal track, punctuated by a pared-back Kimbra in the accompanying video (no rainbow leotard in sight). Perhaps she’s growing up – after all, this album is less about escapism and more about claiming her stake in the industry.
In ‘Top Of The World’, she channels Beyoncé’s ‘7/11’, and on ‘Recovery’ there’s an old-school Natasha Bedingfield vibe. It all makes for enjoyable listening, while moving away from that punchy pop for which we know her so well.
