Thoughts on Vance Joy’s ‘Nation of Two’

Vance Joy Nation of Two

Words by Bianca O’Neil

Rock solid.

It may seem like a while between drinks, but this former Hottest 100 winner and eight-time platinum songwriter says he wasn’t keen to rush the all-important second album.

Although Joy’s music isn’t my personal cup of tea, Nation of Two delivers a rock solid set of indie-pop classics.

‘Lay It On Me’ rolls along, draws you in and delivers an uplifting anthemic chorus you can practically hear in the stadium show setlist already.

It doesn’t let up; ‘We’re Going Home’ and ‘Saturday Sun’ are quintessential road trip tracks, while ‘Crashing Into You’ takes Joy’s patented lush layering and rolls it into a sweet love song.

A strong sophomore.
