From Tokyo to Australia: XG bring ‘The Core’ down under
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FRONTIER TOURING
WORDS BY KAYA MARTIN
XG want to inspire their fans to be the best versions of themselves, and they’re leading by example.
XG is the kind of success story every entertainment company dreams of. Made up of members Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Harvey, Juria, Maya and Cocona, the group has taken the world by storm, reaching Top 40 in the US, modelling at Shanghai Fashion Week and performing at Coachella and the Tokyo Dome.
While some of their success comes from their unique fusion of EDM, hip-hop, pop and RnB, as well as their multilingual lyrics (the group sings in English, Korean and Japanese), a big factor is their inspiring message.

XG’s driving goal is to unleash the power and creativity that lies within every one of us. On their debut album The Core – 核, which came out in January, this message resounds louder than ever, and soon, they’ll bring the positivity to Australian stages, performing at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on October 12 and Sydney’s Afterpay Arena on October 14.
“The Core is an album that captures the very ‘core’ of who we are right now,” says Chisa. “It isn’t confined to any one genre and brings together everything XG has experienced, how we’ve grown, and all the time the seven of us have spent together. So when it was finally released, we were incredibly happy that we could finally share it with the world!”
As any artist knows, a debut album is where you get to introduce yourself, and you only get one chance to make a first impression. With The Core – 核, XG labelled themselves as ‘X-Pop’, which they define as their own signature boundary-breaking and border-transcending genre.

But it took them a while to get to that point. After passing their auditions, the members of XG trained for five years before they launched onto the scene with their first single ‘Tippy Toes’ in 2022. Since then, it’s been full speed ahead, and the group has had to adapt on their feet, figure out how to gel as a group while also coming into their own individually. Their first international tour, which ran for a year from mid-2024 to 2025, was a bit of a learning curve.
“Experiencing our first world tour taught me a lot about what I need while travelling, how to take care of myself during a busy schedule, and how to prepare for jet lag. Even when I try to manage it, I still haven’t quite gotten used to the time differences!” says Hinata. “We also try to communicate with each other even more than we did on the last tour.”
“I think sharing experiences that are unique to each place we visit, whether it’s trying the local food or doing something we can only do there, naturally brings us closer together,” says Harvey.
The demands of touring – stress, relentless travel and late nights – can also be hard on the body, which is especially tough if you have to get on stage in front of tens of thousands of fans each night. I ask XG how they manage to keep well while on the road.
“Touring can really disrupt your normal routine, so instead of trying to do everything perfectly, I focus on consistently doing whatever I can,” says Chisa. “I love working out, so even when I’m tired, I’ll try to do a little exercise, just enough to get my blood flowing! I also have sensitive skin, so I keep my skincare routine simple and focus especially on moisturising. I make sure to drink plenty of water too.”

Australia has always been a special place for XG, especially for member Harvey, the main rapper of the group. Her father is Australian and she lived in the country briefly during her childhood before moving back to Japan.
“For me personally, Australia has been especially memorable,” she says. “Seeing my grandparents and all the members hugging one another was such a heartwarming moment that I’ll never forget. It had always been one of my dreams for them to see one of our shows in person, so it was also the moment that dream came true.”
She’s also drawn inspiration from one of Australia’s biggest cultural exports: INXS. “My grandmother introduced me to them when I was little, and since then, they’ve inspired me not only musically, but also through their visuals, logos, and so much more,” Harvey says. “Whenever I’m in Australia, I always listen to INXS. Their music fits the setting perfectly. It’s the best feeling.”
Now midway through their second tour, XG are taking the time to soak it all in before they think about what comes next.
“We don’t know exactly what the next chapter will look like yet, but we want to continue creating things that only XG can do,” says Hinata. “We want to keep expressing what we believe in, what we want to share, and what we genuinely love in a way that feels authentic and true to who we are.”
