Waking up with a fresh blemish before a big event brings a uniquely awful feeling of dread. Yes, there are worse things (climate change, the housing crisis, Andrew Tate) but uncooperative skin can be truly day-ruining. You know when your hair looks unbelievable right before you’re about to go to bed?
That’s often how I feel about my face. My skin will cooperate on the days I don’t leave the house – overperform, even. Then right as I’m getting ready for a special date, party or trip away, my pores enlarge, my undereye bags emerge and my cheeks turn an unpleasant shade of tomato red.

This sheet mask was sold out everywhere when it first launched (thanks, TikTok). I understood the hype after trialling it. The best thing about this sheet mask is its ability to soothe, calm and reduce inflammation in irritated skin. [It’s] perfect for when you want your skin to look healthy and glowy under makeup, after a skin treatment, or to have handy when you’ve overdone it with the active ingredients.
Innisfree Fermented Soybean Bio Cellulose Mask, $7

If you’re looking for an affordable sheet mask that gets it done, you really can’t go past Innisfree. I actually love every Innisfree sheet mask I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so far. This one’s formulated with jeju fermented soybean, glycerin and panthenol (also known as vitamin B5) to help soothe dry, flaky skin. You won’t find any big-name active ingredients inside this packet – but that’s okay because it’s a $7 soothing sheet mask. It’s not meant to give you a new face.

Giorgio Armani Crema Nera Instant Reviving Mask, $350
Technically, this isn’t a traditional sheet mask. It’s actually a cream mask. But I’m still calling it: this is the best sheet mask I’ve ever used. Everything about this mask is primo – from the slick black packaging and the shiny, leather-feel mask material to the luscious texture of the cream inside the mask and the way your skin looks and feels afterwards.
The price hurts but is worth it for a special occasion product. It left my skin feeling ridiculously plump, radiant, bouncy and bright. I would never tell anyone they need a $70 sheet mask. No one needs any beauty product, really. But if you can afford one, it won’t disappoint you.

I know we’re talking about sheet masks for prepping the skin before a big event but I can’t go past the instant radiance I get from this probiotic mask. Apply on top of your sunscreen in place of a hydrating primer for a truly lit-from-within glow. The hydrating ingredients help provide a smooth, plump base for flawless foundation application.
