I’m a notoriously nosy person when it comes to beauty products. I want to know whether you double cleanse at night, how often you wash your hair, and exactly what you’re using. I want to know if there’s some special facial tool or pair of tweezers that have (hyperbole warranted) changed your life. I want to know what curl definer you use and which lip balm you swear by.

In short, I adore products. This is why I’ve asked some of our favourite Australian beauty experts to share the ‘top three‘ products they can’t live without. The scope is broad – it can genuinely be anything, as long as they’re the three they value the most.
Joining us this week is Sydney-based makeup artist and LGBTQIA+ creator Danh Doan. Known for his bold, creative and playful looks, Danh has hosted masterclasses around Australia with Fenty Beauty, worked on campaigns with It Cosmetics and most recently, teamed up with NYX Professional Makeup to create a signature look for Mardi Gras in Sydney this weekend.
“I’ll be getting ready for Mardi Gras this year blasting Kylie Minogue with friends while I create NYX’s official Pride eye on all of them,” says Danh. “You’ll be able to spot us from a mile away with our iconic eyes!”
For Danh, makeup really is an art – and a quick scroll through his Instagram is all you need as proof. “I’m intrigued by all the colours and textures in makeup and its ability to transform… I did my first bridal client when I was 12 years old and haven’t put my brushes down ever since!” Having worked in the industry for over 13 years, we were curious to know what beauty products Danh rates as his top three.

How did you first discover this product?
Browsing through Mecca when I was 18 years old. I’ve had it in my kit ever since and have repurchased more times than I can count.
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
It’s a hydrating face moisturiser and makeup primer. I love using this product on all my clients to create a hydrating base. The smell and feel of this product is to die for.
Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?
I think everyone needs this product, even if you don’t wear makeup! You can find it at Mecca, Sephora, David Jones and Myer – all stock Bobbi Brown.
Product two: NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in the shade ‘Milk’

How did you first discover this product?
When I was 17 years old I bought it from Target. It’s still to this day one of my favourite eye bases.
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
It’s a creamy white eye pencil that I use as an eyeshadow primer for colourful looks. I love how bright it makes all my eyeshadows.
Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?
You can now find NYX Cosmetics at Chemist Warehouse and everyone can use it!
Product three: Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

How did you first discover this product?
I only recently discovered this product after seeing it all over my FYP. I’ve always been sceptical of over-hyped products but definitely understand the hype for this one.
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
It’s a gentle liquid exfoliant that helps to remove any dead skin cells on the face and neck. It also minimises the appearance of pores and leaves the skin looking and feeling really smooth!
Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?
You can find it at Sephora. Again, anyone can use this product. I recommend using it three to four times a week at night, after cleansing and before moisturising.
