AS TOLD TO LARA DALY

The best eye gloss, eyeliner fixer and a Charlotte Tilbury dupe.

I’m a notoriously nosy person when it comes to beauty products. I want to know whether you double cleanse at night, how often you wash your hair and exactly what you’re using. I want to know if there’s some special facial tool or pair of tweezers that have (hyperbole warranted) changed your life. I want to know what curl definer you use and which lip balm you swear by.

Want to snoop inside the beauty regimes of other creatives? Head here.

In short, I adore products. This is why I’ve asked some of our favourite Australian and New Zealand beauty experts to share the ‘top three‘ products they can’t live without. The scope is broad – it can genuinely be anything, as long as they’re the three they value the most.

Joining us this week is Melbourne-based freelance makeup artist and hair stylist, Ivy Reynolds. You don’t need to scroll through Ivy’s Instagram for long to tell she’s hot on the scene. Her work is bold and unexpected, from rhinestone-studded eyes that look straight out of Euphoria, to playful beauty editorials, to full-on body painting.

It’s no wonder musicians like Shygirl, Mallrat, Big Wet, Juicy Romance and Benee want her on their image-making teams. And while we can’t all have a personal makeup artist as cool as Ivy, we can find out the top three beauty products in her kit and her pro tips on how to use them.

Product one: Danessa Myricks Colourfix Glaze in Clear

How did you first discover this product?

I first heard about this gem while chatting with fellow makeup artist, Sylvia Ura, during some downtime on set.

What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?

It’s safe to say I’m a bit late to the Danessa Myricks craze but this product is a must-have. If you’ve ever tried using M.A.C Lipglass, or any other high-shine lip gloss, over eyeshadow or lipstick, you’re probably familiar with the frustration of creasing or lipstick bleeding outside the lip line.

The Colourfix Glaze in Clear is different – it’s a versatile gloss that creates the perfect editorial, glossy eye without the usual mess. The formula is lightweight and doesn’t interfere with the makeup underneath, making it ideal for adding that high-shine finish to eyes, lips, or skin. What I love most is that it stays in place without the creasing or shifting I’ve experienced with other products. Promise I’m not getting paid to say this!

Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?

You can buy it online from Beauty Bliss. I’d recommend it to anyone looking to achieve that editorial, glossy effect—especially for high-impact photo shoots or runway looks. It’s truly a game changer for makeup artists or anyone looking to elevate their makeup with a professional, polished finish.

Product two: M.A.C Fast Response Eye Cream

How did you first discover this product?

Assisting the gorgeous and mega-talented Rob Povey many moons ago!

What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?

This is an eye primer that contains caffeine, making it ideal for reducing fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. What I love most is its dual function: I use it not only as a primer but also to clean up eyeshadow fallout, or to fix uneven eyeliner.

Instead of reaching for micellar water or makeup remover, I take a little of this cream on a cotton tip and swipe away any mistakes. It’s a lifesaver when you’re in a time crunch because it re-primes the skin as you clean up, so you can go back in with concealer or continue blending without worrying about patchiness.

Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?

You can get it at any M.A.C counter or online from Myer. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves a sharp winged liner or struggles with fine lines, dark circles or puffiness under the eyes.

Product three: Sportsgirl Beauty Complexion Wand in Champagne Highlight

How did you first discover this product?

The lovely team at Sportsgirl sent me some products to test out before working on a campaign a few years ago.

What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?

This is a liquid highlighter with a cushion applicator that’s incredibly easy to use. It’s become one of my personal favourites for everyday makeup. Think Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand but at a fraction of the price. The formula has super-fine pearly pigments that give you a glow but still looks natural, perfect for a low-maintenance look.

On good skin days, I skip foundation entirely and just tap this on the high points of my face with my fingers. I usually do my makeup in the car at red lights (don’t judge!), and this product makes it so easy. Every time I wear it, I get compliments on my glow.

Where would you find it and who would you recommend it to?

You can buy it directly from Sportsgirl in-store or online and it comes in several shades. I’d recommend it to anyone with dryer skin who’s looking for a budget-friendly, effortless highlighter that enhances your natural glow.

Keep up with Ivy here.
