Neutrals, nudes and dewy skin are currently reigning supreme in the beauty world. But what’s coming next?

According to makeup artist Chantelle Baker, we should be looking back to everyone’s favourite girl band, the Spice Girls, for inspiration.

Chantelle took us through the trends you need to try, and the products you’ll need in your collection to stay ahead of the game.

Overlined lips

This one isn’t new, but overlining your lips and lip contouring is going to continue trending. Don’t be afraid to use a shade much darker than your own lips – Geri never was! Chantelle recommends you look to MAC’s Oak and Cork lip pencils and Yash lippy to recreate a modern version of the classic overdrawn, deep nude lip.

Metallics and coloured eyeshadows

When it comes to eye makeup, smokey eyes are out and colour is in – the more bold and metallic the better. Blues, yellows and reds are about to become the main feature of every makeup tutorial, so make sure you have bright shades ready to go.

Anything glittery and metallic is a must. Think gold eyeliner, a glittery silver lid, or rose gold foiled shadows. Chantelle explains: “silver is going to be massive. Not just a shiny lid, but full on, silver metallic magic!”

To create your own sparkly lid, get your hands on Stilla Metallic Metals. Chantelle describes these as, “fun, easy to use and can transform any look into Spice Girls magic.”

If you’re more of a palette kind of girl, Chantelle recommends the Fenty Galaxy Palette for the perfect mix of mattes and shimmers.

Matte skin and a natural finish

To rock a complexion like the group, it’s all about embracing semi-matte, natural skin. Chantelle’s recommendations to achieve this finish are the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation which is semi-matte, not-too-thick and looks like skin.

A mattifying primer will also help achieve Baby Spice-like complexion, and the Fenty Pro Filter Primer is the perfect option. For concealer, look no further than the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. Chantelle adds, “to be honest, it wouldn’t matter the trend, this concealer is the best for any look you are trying to create – it’s my go-to’.

To finish off, Chantelle recommends the Mecca Max Bannan Bake Skin Filter which is the perfect brightening powder for under the eyes. To set everything in place, use Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish. This powder will help give you that trending matte look, without making you look cakey.

Toned down glow

To complete the early naughties look, Chantelle suggests a contour palette like Charlotte Tilbury Film Star Bronze and Glow. Embrace the darker shade in the palette – the group weren’t afraid to rock a darker look on the cheek. This is less about looking perfectly chiselled, and more about layering different colours of bronzer. The Marc Jacobs Tantastic Bronzer will give the ultimate matte bronzed finish to the skin.

For highlighter, go for the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid in Moonstone. Chantelle explains: “the next trend is no longer about the blingy highlight, it’s about a more natural glow from within and Becca’s highlighting products cannot be beaten.”
