I tried the new Shark Glossi multi styler, here’s my honest review

Trialling the Shark Glossi two-in-one Hot Tool and Air Glosser.

Over the past 12 months, I’ve been fairly committed to embracing my hair’s natural texture and letting it go curly. I would let it air dry, avoid heat tools and invest in quality curling balms. Until recently, it’s been a restorative process.

However, this winter has proven quite the challenge. The minute there’s even a hint of rain, my hair has soaked up every possible drop of moisture in the air and by the end of the day, it’s a frizzy mess. So I’ve accepted that at least by October, I’m back on the styling bandwagon.

However, between the washing, blowdrying, styling and top-up styling, I’ve been practically glued to the bathroom mirror. But recently, in a divine act of manifestation, I got an email from Shark Beauty about its latest hair tool: a two-in-one Hot Tool and Air Glosser.

Eagerly, I decided to put it to the test, weighing up how much time it might save me and whether it was worth adding to my regular beauty routine.

What is the Shark Glossi two-in-one Hot Tool and Air Glosser and how does it work?

The Glossi two-in-one Hot Tool and Air Glosser is one of the latest hair tools from Shark Beauty, retailing for $200. It’s designed to streamline your hair routine, delivering a quick, easy, voluminous blowout.

Unlike Shark Beauty’s FlexStyle, which comes with several different attachments, part of the Glossi’s appeal is that you don’t need to alternate between tools. You can move between dual styling modes, opting to dry and style your hair using the ‘wet’ setting, or refresh your locks between washes by turning it to the ‘dry’ mode. Although you have to wait a few seconds for the dry mode to flash green, you can get to work straight away with the wet setting.

The device itself is a teardrop shape and features heat-controlled ceramic plates as well as nylon and boar bristles, which are designed to sit close to your roots without burning your scalp.

The Shark Glossi results

Given I’m a fairly devout user of the brush attachment on the Shark FlexStyle, there wasn’t a steep learning curve in getting my head around the Glossi. After washing my hair and using the Shiseido Fino hair mask, I let it air dry for around half an hour before getting to work. Though it claims to cause ‘no heat damage’, I cautiously applied some heat protectant to my ends.

Wanting to follow the instructions as closely as I could, I began by flipping my wet hair upside down and running the tool through on wet mode. From there, I divided small sections of my hair and slowly worked through with the brush, drying it upwards and outwards from my scalp.

I worked my way through, and then loosely went back over using the dry setting to seal and ‘lock in’ the gloss. I set the timer on my phone and all up, it took 27 minutes from wet to finished and styled.

Would I try the Shark Glossi again?

One hundred per cent yes. More than anything, I appreciate hair tools that are quick and multi-purpose. Though there will always be room for a good diffuser and hair curler in my regimen, the fact that the Shark Glossi can dry, style and refresh my hair without needing to store any extra attachments is a huge plus.

I’ve often found when using any kind of blowdry brush device, my hair still needs extra heat styling to seal it in (usually a wave from the curler), otherwise it’s a frizzy mess by the next day. Thankfully, the Glossi’s dry mode locks in the style without the need to switch between devices. I also gave my hair a quick refresh with the dry setting a couple of days later after getting caught in the rain, and it took a breezy ten minutes.

Given the price point, I’d say it’s well worth the investment. If you’re an Airwrap pro, it might feel a little lacklustre in terms of volume. However, if you want one easy, simple tool that doesn’t require you to spend hours watching tutorials, then the Glossi is a great option.

If it’s not too soon to say, it’s already replaced several of my other hair tools. Bathroom space is precious, as is time in the morning getting ready for work, and it wins on both fronts.
