Top Three: New Zealand beauty brand founder Emma Lewisham’s favourite makeup products
WORDS BY MAGGIE ZHOU AND CAIT EMMA BURKE
“I remember trying this product for the first time and understanding why I’d heard so much about it.”
I’m a notoriously nosy person when it comes to products. I want to know whether you double cleanse at night, and if so which cleansers you use. I want to know if there’s some special hair contraption or pair of tweezers that have (hyperbole warranted) changed your life. I want to know what curl definer you use and which lip balm you swear by.
But my interest in products doesn’t just pertain to the world of beauty – I’m always eager to hear about an air fryer that someone loves so much they’ve convinced their entire extended family to get one, or a laptop stand that’s corrected their posture and improved their quality of life by at least 25 per cent.

In short, I adore products. This is why I’ve asked some of our favourite Australian and New Zealand beauty and skincare people for their top three products, AKA the products they simply cannot live without.
For this installation, we’ve passed the metaphorical microphone to Emma Lewisham, the founder of the eponymous New Zealand skincare label. It’s no secret we’re big fans of Emma and are in awe of how she’s created a sustainable and circular beauty brand with efficacy at its centre. Her own glorious, glowing skin is proof enough. Below, we asked her to share her top three makeup products with us.
Product one: Chanel Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream

How did you first discover this product?
This has been an iconic product for years, and I remember trying this product for the first time and understanding why I’d heard so much about it. This product was recommended to me by a close friend who swore by it in her routine and still does to this day. It quickly became one of my staples.
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
The consistency of this product goes on so smoothly and almost melts into the skin when blended. I believe they’ve got their shades and undertones perfect with this product as it gives you a luminous warm glow that looks completely natural. What I love about it is you can wear it over your foundation, on bare skin or use it as an eyeshadow. It’s completely universal and can be worn with any look to warm your skin up.
Who would you recommend it to?
I truly would recommend this to anyone, as I said it is such a staple and I would not go without it now.
Product two: Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter

How did you first discover this product?
This is a more recent find for me – I’d heard about it through colleagues of mine who’d bought it and were having trouble repurchasing it as it was sold out everywhere! I managed to eventually get my hands on a bottle from Mecca when I was recently travelling in Australia and I’ve been absolutely loving it ever since.
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
It’s technically a primer, but it’s more of a tinted glow product. For what I’m after in a foundation or skin tint, this product is perfect. The transformation I’ve seen in my skin since developing my skincare line has made me feel confident about wearing less makeup, which has been extremely liberating for me. This product gives the perfect amount of light coverage to let my actual skin show through but also adds the most beautiful warm, dewy glow.
Where can we find it and who would you recommend it to?
This product would be perfect for anyone who doesn’t want a full-coverage foundation and likes their skin to show through and look quite natural. If you’re after a more full coverage look, you can wear this product as it is intended, as a primer underneath your foundation for a more flawless look. This product can be found in any Mecca door across Australia and New Zealand.
Product three: Rouge Hermès Satin Lipstick in shade Rose Boise

How did you first discover this product?
I discovered this lipstick during my travels to the UK last year. While I was walking through the halls of Harrods, I was drawn to the Hermès makeup counter as they have such a beautiful and alluring display. I thought the lipsticks looked so beautiful so I decided I’d pick a neutral shade to try.
What is it, what does it do and why do you love it?
It’s a satin lipstick with the most incredible colour pay-off and velvet-like texture. I wear the shade Rose Boise which is the perfect deep nude for me to wear every day.
Where can we find it and who would you recommend it to?
I believe Hermès can be bought online in most countries now, and they have beauty counters in most luxury department stores globally.
